The potential for exporting agricultural products to the Chinese market is huge.
On December 27, in Hanoi, the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) organized the Guangdong (China) - Vietnam Trade Promotion Conference to support Vietnamese enterprises to participate and promote the search for trade cooperation opportunities between enterprises of the two countries.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien - Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, China is Vietnam's largest trading partner with two-way trade turnover reaching 235 billion USD in 2022.
In the first 11 months of 2023, Vietnam exported agricultural products with a turnover of 11.5 billion USD, an increase of 18% over the same period in 2022, accounting for 23.2% of Vietnam's total agricultural export turnover.
“Guangdong is a leading locality in China in terms of economic development, trade and opening up. In the group of Vietnamese exports to Guangdong, in addition to electronic equipment, agricultural products always dominate, such as: rice, coffee, tea, pepper, chili, dragon fruit and processed foods,” Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien shared.
According to data from China Customs, in 2022, Vietnam - Guangdong trade turnover reached 47 billion USD, accounting for 20.1% of the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and China; of which, Vietnam exported about 22 billion USD and imported about 25 billion USD.
Vietnam has the strength of a tropical agriculture with a variety of agricultural and aquatic products, especially fruits, vegetables and spices. Vietnam is a developing economy with stable growth, currently playing an important role in the global value chain and is a member of many free economic agreements in the region as well as globally. Therefore, Vietnam can play a gateway role for Guangdong province to expand its trade activities, especially in the potential ASEAN region.
With the cooperation agreement signed between the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center and the Guangdong Import and Export Association, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien hopes that the two sides will jointly organize programs connecting Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to inform and promote the export of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and aquatic products to China through Guangdong province's import enterprises. At the same time, introduce some agricultural supplies, equipment, production lines, processing and packaging of Chinese products to Vietnamese businesses.
As a unit specializing in producing essences extracted from vegetables, fruits such as: Rau ba powder, perilla powder, passion fruit powder, soursop powder, etc., Mr. Le Minh Chanh - Deputy Director of Cong Thien Phat Private Enterprise (Long An province) - said that the enterprise has opened a code to export food to China, and has also built an agent to distribute products to this market.
Mr. Le Minh Chanh assessed that the export potential to the Chinese market is very large, as Vietnam possesses many agricultural products and products that can be processed. If businesses invest in packaging design, improve quality, and produce to meet food safety standards, their products will always be welcomed by the Chinese market.
Guangdong province has a large population, if businesses are accepted by this market, they can also have very large orders. "Businesses have linked up with importers to distribute not only in Guangdong but also in China. They also have a strategy to bring products to each locality, so businesses need to prepare to be able to meet large orders," Mr. Le Minh Chanh shared.
Promote cooperation and trade promotion activities
Mr. Chau Kelvin - Chief Representative of Guangdong Import and Export Association in Vietnam - shared that in Vietnam, the Association not only cooperates with the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center but also cooperates with a number of provinces and cities; participates in trade promotion activities of localities, associations and cooperatives; organizes exhibitions, connects trade...
“In the coming time, the association will increase and expand trade promotion in many provinces and cities in Vietnam; promote trade for Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products to the Chinese market; organize Vietnamese businesses to participate in exhibition activities in China; build a livestream sales platform,” said Mr. Chau Kelvin.
Also at the conference, Ms. Tran Thi Nhien - Deputy General Director of VietCanton shared about the situation and prospects of Vietnam - China trade cooperation. Through these networking and exchange events, businesses from both sides have the opportunity to learn more about each other's import and export needs, identify potential partners, and from there build appropriate and effective production and business plans.
At the Conference, delegates shared information about the Vegetarian Food Fair in Hong Kong taking place in March 2024; the Guangzhou - China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) in October 2024 as well as the 2024 exhibition fair activities in China. At the same time, they answered questions about issues such as: Customs procedures, logistics, e-commerce for Vietnamese enterprises when participating in exports; introduced high-tech agricultural machinery products from China.
