The Thai To Temple, rebuilt by the Nguyen Phuoc clan in 1972 on the foundation of the old building, will be demolished and evaluated, and the original components will be preserved.

Thai Mieu relic is located in the southeast of Hue Imperial City, built by King Gia Long in 1804, is a place to worship 9 Nguyen Lords. This construction is symmetrical with The Mieu in the southwest corner, is a place to worship Nguyen Dynasty kings.

The overall relic of Thai Mieu is an architectural complex with more than 10 construction items built on an area of over 14,900 m2. In which, the main structure of Thai To Mieu has a wooden architecture built in the style of double houses "trung thiem diep oc", and is the largest wooden structure in Hue Imperial City with: the front hall has 15 compartments and 2 wings, the main hall has 13 compartments and 2 wings. Of the 5 temples in Hue Imperial City, Thai Mieu is the earliest and largest monument.

After many historical upheavals, the Thai Mieu relic was destroyed in 1947. In 1972, Lady Tu Cung (ie Doan Huy Hoang Thai Hau) and descendants of the Nguyen Phuc clan donated funds and rebuilt the main structure of the Thai Mieu on a smaller scale right on the foundation of the old structure.

However, over the years, this structure has also been degraded, deserted, and on the verge of collapse. Many other structures in the relic site are in a similar state, with almost no visitors knowing about them. The tablets of the Nguyen lords were also brought to Trieu Mieu (located north of Thai Mieu) for worship.

Thai Mieu Mon (entrance gate to Thai Mieu) with an area of about 54m2 will be restored and preserved during this period.

According to a representative of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, although most of the structures in this relic complex have been destroyed, based on written descriptions and the existing foundation, the restoration work will completely recreate one of the most important temples under the Nguyen Dynasty.

The project “Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of the Thai Mieu relic, phase 1” will contribute to preserving and promoting the value of the special national historical relic and world cultural heritage. The completed Thai Mieu area will restore the rituals, recreate a part of the intangible heritage that is worth preserving and will be the core in exploiting tourism in the Thai Mieu - Trieu Mieu area, which has been left open for a long time due to the deterioration of the works.

Previously, in 2021, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province passed Resolution No. 35/NQ-HDND on approving the investment policy of the project "Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of Thai Mieu relic, phase 1" with a total cost of 272.7 billion VND, from the central budget and other legal capital sources.

In Thua Thien Hue's medium-term public investment plan for the 2021-2025 period, this project is allocated 100 billion VND, including 50 billion VND from the central budget reserve and 50 billion VND from the relic site entrance fee revenue.

However, because the project was not approved in time in 2021 and 2022, the central reserve fund was canceled and withdrawn. At the end of 2023, to implement the conservation and restoration of Thai Mieu relic, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province issued a Resolution adjusting the capital structure of the project from the provincial budget.

With the budget for the project "Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of the Thai Mieu relic, phase 1" this time being 52 billion VND, the scope of implementation this time mainly focuses on investing in severely degraded structures that can collapse at any time and prioritizes eliminating abandoned spaces in the sacred area of the Thai Mieu.
