In recent years, the number of female workers participating in the overseas labor market has increased. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that workers in general and women in particular can migrate safely to suitable and safe labor markets to find jobs, significantly increase their income, and improve their quality of life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Truyen in Gia Tran commune (Gia Vien district) went to work in Taiwan for 3 years. Ms. Truyen's job is nursing, her monthly salary is on average 15 million VND. Although the salary is not high compared to many other professions, it is quite stable and more importantly, it helps Ms. Truyen improve her skills and expertise to work long-term in this profession. Nearly 2 years ago, Ms. Truyen returned to Vietnam after finishing her working term in Taiwan.
Ms. Truyen said: I am divorced and take care of my young daughter alone. Therefore, I decided to work abroad to save money and take care of my daughter's education in the future. After returning home, I will stay with my daughter for a few more years to help her become stronger and then continue to work abroad. With the knowledge and skills I have been trained and accumulated, returning to the Taiwanese labor market will be much easier for me.
In 2011, through an acquaintance, Ms. Dinh Thi Hung, from Khanh Duong commune (Yen Mo district) accepted an offer to go to Cyprus to work as a domestic helper. After more than 10 years working abroad, Ms. Hung's life has improved a lot when she returned home. Ms. Hung said that she is a lucky person, because not everyone who goes to work abroad achieves what they want.
According to Ms. Hung, Vietnamese workers abroad are tempted by many brokers who approach and invite them with attractive promises if they leave their contracted workplace to work elsewhere. Therefore, before going abroad to work, workers should equip themselves with knowledge and skills to protect themselves from human trafficking. Most importantly, workers must absolutely comply with the principles signed in the labor contract.
Mr. Bui Van Voi, Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Yen Mo district, said: In recent times, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the district has actively coordinated with localities to promote propaganda work to help people understand that labor export is a very effective way to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, but it must be done through official channels, through units with sufficient capacity and prestige in sending people to work abroad.
However, in reality, in some areas, the propaganda about labor export in the locality still faces many difficulties due to the large area, the awareness of workers is still limited... Meanwhile, the organization of propaganda sessions, direct consultation from units that have been assessed and selected to perform the function of sending people to work abroad legally is still limited. Therefore, there are still cases of believing in the promises of brokers.
According to statistics, in the period of 2021-2023, the whole province is estimated to create jobs for nearly 60,000 workers, of which over 4,000 workers are sent to work abroad for a limited period. Since the beginning of 2023, the whole province has sent 1,541 workers abroad, of which 560 are female workers, accounting for nearly 40% of the number of workers going abroad.
However, according to local reports, the actual number of people working abroad is even larger, because there are workers who go through unofficial channels. They easily trust the introduction of other sources of information from acquaintances, even relatives. The subjectivity and gullibility of female workers who are looking for work is the weak point that human trafficking criminals target. Going to work abroad illegally, workers, especially female workers, face many risks. Many people have had to pay the price with money, time, health, future...
In fact, scammers are increasingly using sophisticated tricks to deceive authorities. Especially in the context of the current social network explosion, if workers are not equipped with safe network usage skills, they can easily become "prey" of scammers.
Therefore, to ensure safe migration for workers in general and female workers in particular, in recent times, all levels, sectors and localities in our province have increased propaganda and mobilization measures in many forms to raise awareness and equip workers with more knowledge, especially for high-risk groups, to gain more understanding of safe labor export.
When workers have a need to go abroad, localities connect them with functional sectors and business units to provide advice and support on information about the market, jobs, income, and equip them with skills before migrating, and how to seek support when needed...
In particular, in recent times, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has actively participated in and promoted many activities to accompany and support female members. Typically, the forum "safe migration, prevention and combat of human trafficking" has been widely organized in localities in recent times.
At the forums, delegates including leaders of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the District Women's Union, local authorities, commune police, people who have worked abroad... discussed about labor export work; the current situation of human trafficking; the risks of illegal labor export...
With that practical meaning, the forums have attracted the attention of many members, women and people in the area, contributing to raising awareness and limiting social evils occurring to female workers.
