The year 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and is considered by the leaders of the two countries as the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year. On this occasion, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) in collaboration with Tsinghua University, China organized the International Conference “Vietnam-China Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges of Higher Education in the 21st Century - The Digital Intelligence Era”, on March 1.

Attending the workshop were comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; comrade Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission.

On the Chinese side, there were alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Council of Tsinghua University Qiu Yong; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Vietnam He Wei.

Share experiences and explore future cooperation opportunities

VNU has been assigned by the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to play a leading role in the national education system through training, nurturing talents and high-quality research. VNU leaders always attach importance to the relationship with Chinese partners and believe that this relationship will contribute significantly to VNU achieving sustainable development goals. In recent times, VNU has signed cooperation agreements with dozens of leading Chinese educational institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Macau University, etc. in training, scientific research, technology transfer, and staff and student exchanges.

In the context of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, VNU identifies science, technology and innovation as the foundation and driving force for development, associated with creating an innovative cultural environment; respecting differences and diversity; building a synchronous ecosystem from basic research, application, pilot production to commercialization; taking results to contribute to the development of the country.

The workshop “Vietnam - China Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges of Higher Education in the 21st Century - The Digital Intelligence Era” aims to create opportunities for connection, exchange and academic exchange between experts and researchers of VNU and Tsinghua University and Vietnamese universities in the field of higher education in general and higher education with the support of artificial intelligence (AI) in particular, while sharing experiences and exploring future cooperation opportunities.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics expressed his joy and support for the effective cooperation between the two leading universities of the two countries, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Tsinghua University of China. He believed that the Workshop with the theme "Vietnam - China Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges of Higher Education in the 21st Century - The Digital Intelligence Era" is a clear demonstration of the effective cooperation between the two universities, a forum for academic exchange between researchers and educators of the two sides, delving into an important topic related to the development of higher education in the context of strong digital transformation.

“I hope that professors and scientists from Tsinghua University, colleagues from VNU, experts, scientists and education managers from Vietnam attending today's conference will actively share experiences in education, scientific research and innovation; propose many practical and feasible solutions to contribute to promoting development and enhancing cooperation in education, science, technology and innovation in general, and cooperation between higher education institutions of Vietnam and China in particular in the digital intelligence era,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Ha Vi shared that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations. The General Secretaries of the two countries also identified 2025 as the "Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year", demonstrating the importance and expectations of senior leaders for building a solid social foundation of the two countries. He expressed his pleasure at attending the Workshop "Vietnam-China Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges of Higher Education in the 21st Century - The Digital Intelligence Era" organized by VNU and Tsinghua University - the two leading prestigious universities of each country. He believes that the cooperative relationship as well as initiatives on training, research, and exchange between VNU and Chinese universities will contribute to promoting the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and China.


VNU President Le Quan said that VNU and Tsinghua University, the two leading educational institutions in Vietnam and China, both possess strong potential and capabilities in training and scientific research, especially in areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence and educational management. The combination of VNU’s multidisciplinary strengths and Tsinghua University’s leading capabilities in engineering and technology creates an ideal foundation for bilateral cooperation.

Prof. Khuu Dung - Chairman of Tsinghua University Council expressed that Tsinghua University highly values ​​exchanges and cooperation with education departments and universities of Vietnam, including VNU. In the future, Tsinghua University will continue to strengthen extensive cooperation with Vietnamese partners in the fields of talent training, scientific research, cultural exchange, etc. and work together and share responsibilities to seize the opportunities that the times offer and together respond to the changes and challenges of higher education in the digital intelligence era.

Prof. Khuu Dung shared that the organization of this conference is a vivid manifestation of the traditional friendship of “both comrades and brothers” between China and Vietnam, and is also a positive solution to seriously implement the important consensus reached by the senior leaders of the two parties and two countries. He believes that this forum will contribute wisdom and solutions to the process of transforming higher education in the smart era, creating more momentum to promote the development of higher education in the two countries, contributing to the building of a China-Vietnam strategic community with a shared future.
