Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee has just approved the adjustment of the construction planning of Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong province to 2030, with a vision to 2050 (second adjustment).
Accordingly, by 2030, Thanh Mien district will adjust its orientation to reduce from 12 urban areas to 3 urban areas. Specifically, upgrading Thanh Mien town urban area to a type IV urban area. Orientation for planning and classifying urban areas according to type V urban criteria for 2 commune-level administrative units including: Doan Tung - Thanh Tung, Tu Cuong - Cao Thang (merging 2 communes Doan Tung and Thanh Tung; Tu Cuong with Cao Thang).
Vision 2031 - 2050, the development orientation of Thanh Mien district's urban system is suitable to the development conditions, the planning orientation of the urban and rural system in the provincial planning approved by competent authorities.
According to the planning adjustment, Thanh Mien district includes 1 town and 16 communes, with an area of about 123.45 km2 . The current population is more than 141,000 people, forecasted to be about 175,000 people by 2030, and about 203,500 people by 2050.
Thanh Mien will be a region for sustainable industrial development, commercial services, and agricultural production; oriented to develop into a dynamic industrial center of the province. It is an area with an important economic, political, and cultural position in the southwest of Hai Duong province; a dynamic industrial center of the province, a transit hub, and a socio-economic exchange between Hai Duong province and Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces.
Thanh Mien district's space is oriented to develop according to 4 sub-zones. Zone 1 (central urban area) focuses on developing functional areas of type IV urban areas; is the political, administrative, cultural - sports, service - commercial, educational, medical and technological center of the district.
Zone 2 (new industrial - service - urban development zone) is the economic, cultural, scientific and technical center of the northern part of the district. As part of the Hai Duong specialized economic zone, priority is given to the development of large-scale concentrated industry, services, education and new residential areas, especially the construction of worker housing and social housing to serve industry.
Zone 3 (agricultural development zone), concentrated agricultural production applying high technology; developing smart agriculture, organic agriculture to increase added value and sustainable development.
Zone 4 (tourism conservation zone) is an eco-tourism zone, combined with agricultural conservation and organic agriculture in Chi Lang Nam commune.
