Proposal to collect non-stop electronic tolls at the two largest airports in the country

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên01/10/2023

According to the Department of Roads, currently, airport toll stations across the country, especially at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, still collect fees manually. Drivers must stop in front of the toll station to pay in cash, causing frequent congestion at the station, frustrating drivers and passengers alike.

Congestion at toll station will affect many roads around the airport

Therefore, the Department proposed that the Ministry of Transport report to the Prime Minister to allow non-stop electronic toll collection service providers to pilot the expansion of non-stop electronic toll collection services at the above two airports for a period of 6 months.

Based on the implementation process and results of the pilot non-stop electronic toll collection at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, the Ministry of Transport will organize an impact assessment and review, research, propose and recommend appropriate, strict, effective and legally compliant handling options. The Department of Roads will propose to adjust and supplement Decision No. 19 concurrently with the pilot implementation process.

"The pilot is based on ensuring social benefits, increasing convenience, creating convenience for service users, promoting the effectiveness of investment in the non-stop electronic toll collection system, as well as having a basis for evaluation and perfecting the legal corridor to ensure suitability, strictness, efficiency, and compliance with legal regulations" - the leader of the Department of Roads commented.

Currently, ACV collects service fees for vehicles picking up and dropping off passengers at two airport groups. For Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang airports, vehicles entering and leaving within 10 minutes will be charged VND10,000/trip for vehicles with less than 9 seats, VND15,000/trip for vehicles with 10-30 seats, and VND25,000/trip for vehicles with 30 seats or more.

The remaining airports charge a fee of VND5,000/trip for cars with less than 9 seats, VND10,000/trip for cars with 10-16 seats, VND15,000/trip for cars with 16-29 seats, and VND25,000/trip for cars with 30 seats or more. Cars entering the airport for more than 10 minutes will be charged an additional parking service fee.
