Transport Design Consulting Corporation - JSC (TEDI) has reported on the route plan for the Cat Lai ferry replacement bridge project in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province.
The existing Cat Lai ferry is also overloaded, with frequent congestion at the ferry entrance during rush hours.
The Cat Lai Bridge project has a total route length of more than 11.3km with the starting point located on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, about 400m from My Thuy intersection (Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City); the end point of the project in Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai) connects to Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway at Km33+500.
The project will have a design scale of an urban main road, a design speed of 80km/h, a cross-sectional scale that meets current and future traffic needs, in accordance with approved planning, ensuring 6 motor lanes and 2 non-motorized lanes.
In particular, the Cat Lai bridge section alone is more than 3km long, the main bridge section is built according to the structure of a 2-plane cable-stayed bridge, 3 continuous spans, 2-box prestressed reinforced concrete main girder constructed using balanced cantilever technology to ensure 6 motor vehicle lanes and 2 rudimentary lanes and ensure the widths to arrange the cable-stayed system, with a total width of 29.5m.
Regarding the project route in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai, due to some difficulties, the consulting unit proposed three adjustment options compared to the approved route option according to the adjustment of the general planning of the new urban area of Nhon Trach, Dong Nai province to 2035 and vision to 2050 of the Prime Minister (Decision No. 455/QD-TTg dated March 22, 2016).
Cat Lai Bridge is expected to help support existing routes to connect to Long Thanh airport.
Including: Option 1.1 - adjusted route to the East of the planned route; Option 1.2 - adjusted route to the West of the planned route, basically following the direction of the planned route. Option 1.3 - adjusted route to the West of the planned route following the new route direction, basically avoiding the entire Giong San intersection area and neighboring religious buildings.
The consulting unit also proposed a phased investment plan, in which the scale of phase 1 will completely clear the land of 100m according to the plan and build 2 parallel roads on both sides first.
Previously, in May 2017, the Prime Minister approved the addition of the Ho Chi Minh City Transport Development Plan to 2020 and vision after 2020 at the request of the Ministry of Transport. In which, it agreed to build a bridge to replace Cat Lai ferry, located in Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City and Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province) across the Dong Nai river.
In August 2019, the Prime Minister continued to issue a document agreeing to assign the People's Committee of Dong Nai province as the competent state agency to implement the Cat Lai ferry replacement bridge project under the form of public-private partnership (PPP), build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract. The People's Committee of Dong Nai province also assigned the Department of Transport to preside over and guide the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to organize the preparation of a pre-feasibility study report for the project.
Previously, according to Dong Nai Department of Transport, for the investment project to build Cat Lai bridge to replace Cat Lai ferry, Dong Nai province's planning has updated the location connecting Cat Lai bridge in Nhon Trach district with Thu Duc city.
Dong Nai province has also drafted a plan to invest in the construction of Cat Lai bridge and is sending it to Ho Chi Minh City for comments. After Ho Chi Minh City comments and agrees, the two localities will sign a joint implementation agreement. At this time, the next steps will be taken according to regulations to invest in the construction of Cat Lai bridge connecting to Long Thanh airport, sharing traffic congestion on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway.
Meanwhile, at working sessions, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the Cat Lai bridge should be prioritized for implementation before 2030.
Also during the working session between the units, Mr. Vo Tan Duc, Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, proposed that Ho Chi Minh City consider and prepare a pre-feasibility study report for the Cat Lai bridge project in 2024, starting construction in 2025 so that when it comes into operation, it can reduce traffic pressure as well as serve the exploitation of Long Thanh airport.
