According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, by the end of 2023, the country will have 38,000 tourist accommodation establishments according to industry criteria.

With many beautiful landscapes, historical and cultural relics, and preferential policies from the State, in recent years, the number of domestic and international tourists has continuously increased, leading to an increase in electricity demand.

In 2022, the number of domestic tourists and international tourists is expected to reach 101.3 million, with 3.66 million; total revenue from tourists is expected to reach 495 trillion VND. In 2023, the total number of international visitors is estimated to reach 12.6 million, an increase of 244.2% compared to 2022, and domestic visitors are estimated to reach 108 million, an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year. Tourism revenue is expected to reach over 700 trillion VND.

According to current regulations, tourist accommodation establishments are required to apply a higher retail electricity price list for business customers than the retail electricity price list for production. This has more or less affected tourist accommodation establishments, reducing the competitiveness of the industry, especially during times affected by epidemics and seasonal tourism...

To support tourism establishments in particular and Vietnam's tourism industry in general, in the latest draft Decision of the Prime Minister regulating the structure of retail electricity prices, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed and built in the direction that tourism establishments are allowed to apply the retail electricity price list for production customers.

According to the provisions of the draft decision, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is responsible for coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to determine the subjects of tourist accommodation establishments to which the electricity prices specified in Clause 1, Clause 2 and Clause 3, Article 3 of this Decision apply."

It is known that in 2020-2021, facing the huge impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed and was approved by the Prime Minister to reduce electricity prices in many phases for tourist establishments, thereby contributing to reducing difficulties for businesses.
