Recently, the story of children under pressure to study, many cases of child suicide have caused a stir in public opinion, many cases of school violence, both teachers and students are hurt... For many years now, many people have mentioned the issue of how to build a happy school, "every day at school is a happy day". So how to build a happy school is not an easy story.

Sharing with TG&VN , Prof. Ha Vinh Tho, founder of the Eurasia Institute for Happiness and Well-Being; former Program Director of the Gross National Happiness Center in Bhutan, said that happiness is living a meaningful life, not only for oneself but also for others and making valuable contributions to society. Education is not just about passing exams but more importantly, teaching students how to feel, adapt and live a happy life.

According to Professor Ha Vinh Tho, we are living in the digital age. But to confidently face the future, we need to rethink the role, methods and functions of education, in order to equip young people with the necessary skills and capacities to meet these challenges.

Exams, grades and awards are not the ultimate goal. The purpose of education is to help young people develop their full potential, intellectually and emotionally, and to compete successfully in the digital age. To do this, we need to equip them with the necessary skills and abilities.

Especially in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), knowledge alone is not enough. Students need social skills, emotional skills, creativity and teamwork, and the ability to solve problems in life. Teachers and students should not focus too much on passing exams but on teaching and learning the skills and abilities that the next generation will need to become good, creative and confident people.

"When teachers are respected, are proactive in their teaching work, when teachers do not have to endure too much pressure, including the pressure of 'making a living', then teachers can be happy. From there, teachers can transmit happiness and positivity to students. When students are not under pressure of scores and exams, are always respected for their differences, and learn in the spirit of discovering knowledge, then they will feel happy."

Many schools are still on the journey to build happy schools. But according to many experts, this is not an easy task. Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Educational Psychology, Chairman of the Education Council of Dinh Tien Hoang High School (Hanoi) commented that the basic difficulties in building happy schools are that the Principal has not yet determined the educational goals to inspire teachers and students. If the manager does not determine the educational goals of the school, competes for achievements, and assigns targets beyond the capacity of teachers and students, it will create a lot of pressure.

In reality, teachers and students are still facing many pressures and expectations from leaders, society, and parents. From imposing targets, competing for achievements and titles, to pressure from parents... Besides work pressure, many teachers also have to worry about "making ends meet" when their teaching salaries are still too modest. Once teachers are struggling with their own happiness, how much time do they have to care about the happiness of their students?

Therefore, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam worries that there cannot be happy children when parents leave their children to the school, or see teachers as tools to monitor their children and fulfill their expectations for them. Society needs to have a correct view of the pressures and hardships of teachers.

In reality, teachers' material and spiritual lives are still not given due attention, and the pressure from all sides makes them not really happy in their journey of "sowing the seeds of knowledge". It is necessary to have a worthy treatment regime so that each teacher can feel secure and have more motivation to contribute to the career of educating people. Because if teachers are still struggling with their own happiness, how can they bring happiness to their students?

It can be said that today's students can easily find knowledge and information in the Internet age. Therefore, they must develop self-awareness, critical thinking, creativity and teamwork. It is necessary to focus on students' individual abilities and strengths, creating a positive classroom atmosphere. Schools must not only serve the most talented students but also ensure that no child is left behind.

Moreover, to make students feel happy when coming to school, teachers themselves must change their educational thinking. Of course, there are many barriers in the journey to build teachers' happiness. Therefore, schools must promote moral values, teachers are teachers, students are students.

At the Conference on the implementation of the Happy School Criteria, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc affirmed: "Building a happy school is a complicated, long-term process. It cannot be solved in a few months or years. Therefore, educational institutions need to be calm and see what is practical to do first. If we do the right criteria for a happy school but when we ask students, they say they are not happy, it doesn't mean anything."

When teachers are respected, are proactive in their teaching work, when teachers do not have to endure too much pressure, including the pressure of "making a living", then teachers can be happy. From there, teachers can transmit happiness and positivity to students. When students are not under pressure of grades and exams, are always respected for their differences, and learn in the spirit of discovering knowledge, then they will feel happy...
