In the literary essay section, the question requires candidates to write an essay analyzing and evaluating the unique features of the content and form of the first paragraph of the poem Origin of Words (Xuan Quynh).

Reading the exam for gifted students in literature for grade 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, Master Tran Le Duy, lecturer of the Faculty of Literature, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, compared this exam to "the top of the world" because of its novelty and creativity while still meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.

According to Mr. Duy, this is the first excellent student exam under the new program, so the exam questions meeting the program's requirements are no small challenge.

But it can be seen that the exam has been innovated to follow the requirements of the new program, raising the level of thinking to evaluate excellent students, avoiding the situation of "studying one thing, taking the exam another" or turning the excellent student exam into cramming academic knowledge from university into students.

A social argumentative essay is an essay about a social issue; a literary argumentative essay is an essay analyzing and evaluating a literary work, with an additional extension that includes thinking about and relating the literary issue to your life.

Master Tran Le Duy, the aesthetics of the topic with the general theme "stepping off the beaten path" is good, evocative, and aesthetically pleasing. In terms of form, the topic is novel, creative (in the form of a forum), provoking debate. Importantly, the topic's orientation is clearly shown in the command.

A literature teacher in Ho Chi Minh City shared that, like many years ago, the literature exam in Ho Chi Minh City has never disappointed students and teachers. The exam still follows a familiar pattern but there is no overlap with any other year.
