Promoting Vietnam - Austria automobile industry cooperation

Austria is a country with strengths in the automotive industry and Vietnam and Austria have many opportunities to enhance cooperation between businesses of the two sides in this field.


Information from the Vietnam Trade Office in Austria, on February 5, 2025, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang - Ambassador of Vietnam in Austria and Head of Trade Office, Embassy of Vietnam in Austria - Ms. Dinh Thi Hoang Yen met and worked with the leaders of Magna Steyr Company and AVL Company in Graz.

These are two leading companies in Austria as well as in the world in the field of applying electrification, software, AI and automation to the transportation industry, green transformation and digitalization. These two companies are long-term partners of Vinfast Company in the production of gasoline and electric engine cars.

At the meeting, Mr. Helmut List - Chairman and founder of the company introduced the activities of AVL Company. AVL Company is one of the world's leading transportation technology companies in development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry and other fields such as railways, maritime and energy.

The company currently has 12,200 employees in more than 90 locations and more than 50 Technology and Engineering Centers worldwide. The company has a history of more than 25 years of cooperation in design, manufacturing, research, training, and technology transfer with automobile companies, research institutes, technology universities, and seaports in Vietnam. In 2017, the company implemented a motorcycle emission testing project using preferential loans from the Austrian government for Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Magna Steyr Company under Magna International Group is a world leader in designing, developing and assembling automobiles for famous global brands (OEM models), with 34 models for 11 brands. Like AVL, Magna Steyr focuses on investing in developing clean, green technology cars, electric cars, and advanced battery technology.

At the meeting, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang congratulated the pioneering development of the two companies in Austria as well as in the international market, especially the close cooperation with Vietnamese partners. The Ambassador emphasized Vietnam's vision and determination to become a developed, high-income country by 2045 with breakthrough driving forces being science and technology, innovation, green transformation, and digital transformation. This is also the strength of Austrian industrial and technological companies, including AVL and Magna Steyr in the fields of transportation and energy conversion. The Vietnamese Government welcomes and is ready to create all favorable conditions for Austrian companies such as AVL and Magna Steyr to expand their investment, production and long-term business in Vietnam.

Leaders of AVL and Magna Steyr congratulated Vietnam on its impressive socio-economic achievements, highly appreciated the great potential of the Vietnamese market and its connection with the region, and expressed their desire to expand closer and more effective cooperation with Vietnamese partners in manufacturing, research, training, and technology transfer, thereby contributing to realizing Vietnam's aspiration to become rich and prosperous in the coming decades.

Previously, at the end of January, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang had a working session with Ms. Amelie Gross, Vice President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) and Mr. Stefan Stantejsky, Director of the Asia and Oceania Department to discuss and promote Vietnam-Austria trade and investment cooperation.
