Late on June 17, heavy rain caused dozens of cubic meters of rock and soil from the embankment to slide down and bury the house and corrugated iron workshop of Mr. Nghiem Dinh Quang (40 years old) in Anh Mai village (Loc Chau commune). Mr. Quang and his wife were sleeping in the room that was completely buried. His two children and the mother-in-law, the workshop owner, were able to escape in the room next door.

Dozens of rescuers, vehicles and specialized equipment were mobilized to search for the victim. By 3am today, the authorities had brought the victim out. Mr. Quang had died, and his injured wife was taken to the emergency room.

The landslide also damaged more than 40 meters along the embankment. In addition to Mr. Quang's house being buried, the soil and rocks damaged many properties in two karaoke businesses next door; threatening 15 households in the area.

Bao Loc City leaders directed the authorities to isolate the area, assess the danger level of the landslide, and move households to safety. Over the past few days, Bao Loc City has experienced heavy rain, flooding several streets in the city center, as well as many shops and houses.
