On December 13, Dr. Tra Anh Duy (Men's Health Center) said that the test results showed a low sperm count and many deformed, poorly moving sperm.

Taking a medical history, Mr. H. said that he has quite healthy habits and lifestyle such as not drinking alcohol, smoking, or staying up late... and is passionate about sports, so he chooses to cycle 5-6 days/week with friends, each cycling session lasting about 2-3 hours.

According to Dr. Duy, to date there has been no specific research confirming that high-intensity cycling leads to male infertility. But that does not mean that men should allow themselves to abuse this sport too much.

"One of the biggest concerns is increased temperature in the testicular area due to pressure and friction from cycling. High temperatures can damage sperm and reduce their quality. For men who regularly participate in cycling, choosing comfortable clothes and avoiding clothes that are too tight, hot materials, and heat retention can help reduce this risk," Dr. Duy advised.

In addition, the duration and intensity of cycling also play an important role. Many studies have shown that performing moderate physical activity is not only harmless but can also improve reproductive health. However, cycling for too long or too hard can put a lot of pressure on the pelvic area, affecting sperm survival. This is especially important for those who plan to have children in the future.

In addition, trauma to the pelvic area is also a factor to consider. Injuries, or strong pressure on the pelvic area can affect male reproductive health.

In Mr. H's case, the doctor advised him to change his regimen as well as choose a few other sports to maintain a healthy lifestyle such as jogging, playing badminton... Along with a healthy diet and supplementing some foods, it helped Mr. H. improve his semen analysis results somewhat after 3 months of monitoring and treatment.

According to Dr. Duy, cycling for health training brings many benefits such as building muscles, training cardiovascular health and preventing cardiovascular diseases, supporting weight loss and obesity, improving strength, reducing anxiety, stress and depression... However, for men, when participating in cycling, to avoid affecting general health and reproductive health, it is necessary to:

  • Choose a vehicle model and size that fits your body to avoid pressing on your genitals.
  • Avoid sitting on the bike for too long and choose a saddle that is soft, flat and has enough contact area with the pelvic area.
  • Cycling clothes should be airy and not too tight to avoid increasing testicular temperature.

Also, people with knee or hand injuries should avoid cycling. People with asthma and knee injuries and pain should also avoid cycling.
