On the morning of November 19, Vietnam time, athlete Dang Tran Phuong Nhi won the gold medal in the men's and women's taolu event. The judges scored Phuong Nhi's test 9,760 points. Two athletes, He Jianxin of Hong Kong (China) and Tan Cheong Ming of Malaysia, won the silver and bronze medals.
This is the first gold medal for Vietnamese wushu at the 2023 World Wushu Championship. Previously, Phuong Nhi won the silver medal for the Vietnamese team in the south knife event, with a score of 9,743 points. The gold medal went to Wu Jianing (China) and the bronze medal was awarded to Lucy Lee (USA).

Up to this point, the Vietnamese team has 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal, both from Dang Tran Phuong Nhi - a girl who grew up, trained and competed for the Hanoi wushu team.
The Vietnamese wushu team participated in the world tournament with 13 athletes, including Duong Thuy Vi, Nguyen Thi Lan, Phuong Nga, Kieu Trang, Phuong Giang, Thu Thuy, Phuong Nhi, Manh Cuong, Duy Hai, Huy Hoang, Do Dat, Van Tam, Van Huu.
Among these, the team creates opportunities for some young athletes to compete, thereby comparing and discovering martial artists with potential for development.
After 4 years, the World Wushu Championship is back. The most recent one was in China in 2019. At that time, the Vietnamese team won 1 gold medal, 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
This year’s tournament brings together more than 500 athletes from 72 countries and territories. The men’s and women’s taolu events each have 11 sets of medals. Meanwhile, the combat events are contested in weight classes from 48 to 75kg, for both men and women. The tournament runs until November 20.
