56 nautical miles (about 110 km) southeast of Phan Thiet City, Phu Quy - an island district of Binh Thuan province - with an area of only about 17.82 km2 is a very attractive destination.
Phu Quy is known as a remote island, possessing many famous landscapes and landscapes that still retain their wild beauty, with the potential to develop diverse types of tourism (especially marine ecotourism, culture - religion), and hospitable people... Aiming to effectively exploit the potential and advantages of the sea of the island district, Binh Thuan province has decided to recognize Phu Quy as a provincial tourist area in mid-2020. Recently, after the expressway section through Binh Thuan was officially opened to traffic, along with convenient travel from the mainland to the island, it is predicted that Phu Quy tourism will have the opportunity to create a breakthrough development.
Setting foot on the island at the end of May 2023, we were surprised by the rapid changes of Phu Quy, through research we learned that it was largely due to the positive impact of tourism. Currently, on the Phan Thiet - Phu Quy transport route, there are 5 ships participating in transporting passengers (including: Superdong-PQI, Superdong-PQII, Phu Quy Express, Tuan Chau Express-II, Trung Trac), during the peak holiday season, thousands of tourists come to the island for relaxation and entertainment. Up to now, the district has more than 150 accommodation facilities for tourists, of which 1/3 are hotels and motels with nearly 650 rooms. Along with that, there are many accompanying services such as motorbike rental, SUP and diving instruction or investing in restaurants and eateries to meet the needs of exploring destinations, enjoying famous seafood specialties on remote islands...
Besides historical relics and must-see sights such as Van An Thanh, Flagpole affirming the sovereignty of the Fatherland, Trieu Duong Bay, Ganh Hang, Cao Cat Mountain... almost every place on this island is an ideal check-in spot for tourists. With its competitive ability to attract visitors, the reality shows that Phu Quy tourism is gradually showing the appearance of a rising "star", a destination that tourists everywhere want to explore and experience to leave beautiful memories.
However, the rapid growth in the number of visitors in recent times has also posed many challenges for local authorities and the tourism industry. That is, investing in developing infrastructure to meet the needs of relaxation, dining, entertainment... but still maintaining the wild and unique features of the "pearl island". At the same time, there must be solutions to ensure security and safety for visitors, overcome the situation of waste not being collected and treated promptly, or need to manage service quality well, reasonable prices... when the number of visitors continues to flock to Phu Quy.
