Embassies of countries pledge to support Vietnam in overcoming natural disaster consequences

On the morning of September 18, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a reception for emergency aid to support people affected by storm No. 3 (YAGI). At the reception, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep informed about the serious impact of storm No. 3, the floods and rains that have seriously affected the lives of Vietnamese people; at the same time, expressed gratitude to disaster risk reduction partners, international organizations, and embassies for providing financial aid as well as essential goods to localities severely damaged by storm No. 3 and its circulation. "Currently, the Vietnamese Government has been making efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. The highest leaders of Vietnam, ministries, branches and localities have directly gone to the scene of the areas affected by storms and floods to promptly direct, support, encourage and help people to gradually overcome the situation. Up to this point, we have received about 15 million USD and 200 tons of essential goods from international organizations and embassies. The aid has been and is being delivered to localities. We hope to continue to receive support so that localities heavily affected by storm No. 3 and floods can soon restore production and stabilize their lives," Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep wished. Ms. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, said: "In the past few days, we have organized delegations to assess the current situation of the impact of natural disasters in a number of localities in the fields of clean water and sanitation, education, agriculture, child protection, etc. We will continue to coordinate with partners in disaster risk reduction and relevant agencies of Vietnam to mobilize various resources for the above fields, thereby contributing to quickly overcoming the consequences of natural disasters." British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew hopes that Vietnam will promptly provide data on damage caused by natural disasters and practical needs of people so that international organizations, embassies, etc. can develop plans and organize appropriate support for localities affected by storms and floods. Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Sandeep Arya informed that the Indian Government will coordinate with Vietnam to enhance the resilience of infrastructure to natural disasters. At the reception, representatives of the embassies presented symbols of support for people in disaster-hit areas. Specifically, the British Embassy supported 1.3 million USD (equivalent to 1 million pounds), the Indian Embassy supported 1 million USD (in relief goods), the US Embassy in Vietnam supported 1 million USD, the New Zealand Embassy supported 620 thousand USD (equivalent to 1 million NZ dollars), the Australian Embassy supported 2 million USD (equivalent to 3 million Australian dollars), and the Korean Embassy supported 2 million USD. Along with that, representatives of the embassies attending also pledged to continue to accompany and support Vietnam to quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters in localities.
