Quy Nhon University apologized after a candidate was told by the school's admissions staff that he "studied at a specialized school but didn't know how to think about others."
On the evening of June 8, Quy Nhon University posted an apology letter about the communication style of the staff of the fanpage "Quy Nhon University Admissions".
This started from an anonymous post, upset about the response of the fanpage staff on a student forum. Accordingly, at 12:52 yesterday, a student messaged the fanpage to ask if the school directly admitted students from non-specialized schools with IELTS 6.5 or not. The person in charge of the admissions page replied: "Don't you think teachers need to rest at this time?"
The student quickly apologized, saying that he was busy looking for information about admissions and had not noticed the time. However, the person in charge of the fanpage continued: "You are a student at a specialized school, but you don't think about others."
At 1:33 p.m., the student texted back, giving feedback on the fanpage's response, but the staff continued to argue, claiming to be "hurt" by the student's words.
"Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? This is the first time I've received such messages so I was shocked, but I apologized afterwards, but I still receive such offensive messages. What should I do?", reads the posted article. The post is accompanied by a screenshot of the conversation.
Responding to VnExpress on the morning of June 9, Associate Professor Do Ngoc My, Principal of Quy Nhon University, confirmed the incident. He said that the fanpage "Quy Nhon University Admissions" is the school's official information and consulting channel. The fanpage's management team consists of staff from the Admissions Consulting and Business Relations Center, specialists, and lecturers from several faculties.
"The school apologizes for the counselor's behavior. We have learned from the experience and requested immediate improvement in counseling quality," Associate Professor My said.
The person who responded to the student in the incident has been removed from the advisory group, he added.
This year, Quy Nhon University will enroll more than 5,800 students through four methods: considering high school graduation results; considering academic records; considering results of the competency and thinking assessment exam; and direct admission according to admission regulations.
In 2022, many pedagogical majors of Quy Nhon University have a benchmark score of up to 28.5 such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, History, Geography. Other majors have benchmark scores ranging from 16-26.
