University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS) adjusts direct admission and priority admission

VnExpressVnExpress28/04/2024

University of Foreign Languages (ULIS) expands the priority admission of students from specialized schools, with the condition of GPA from 8 or higher, combined with an interview.

The school's admissions representative said on April 27 that this year ULIS will maintain four stable admission methods, including: Direct admission and priority admission; Admission based on foreign language certificates; Considering the test scores of Hanoi National University; Considering the high school graduation exam scores. However, this year, the school will expand the first two methods.

With the direct admission and priority admission methods , in addition to applying the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, of Hanoi National University (candidates who won prizes in excellent student competitions and science and technology competitions at national, international and provincial levels), the school adds two other groups with the form of considering academic records combined with interviews:

- Students of specialized high schools nationwide must have an average score of 8 or higher for 5 semesters. Of which, the score of three subjects in the admission group and the foreign language subject alone must be above 8.

- Non-specialized students of Hanoi National University have similar average scores. The average score of the three subjects in the group and the lowest Foreign Language subject is 8.5.

The school accepts applications in early May and concludes interviews before May 30.

With the admission method using foreign language certificates , different from 2023, this year ULIS converts the certificate scores to a 10-point scale and then adds regional and subject priority points for admission. These candidates must have a total score of the 2024 high school graduation exam in the remaining two subjects in the admission group of 14 points or more (Math or Literature required).

The calculation formula for this group is as follows:

Admission score = Foreign language certificate score converted to 10-point scale + regional and subject priority points.

If you are a student at a specialized school, in addition to the certificate requirements similar to the above group, you need to have an average score of over 8 in each year of high school, in which three subjects in the admission group must be 8 or higher.

Conversion table of IELTS scores and other foreign language certificates of University of Foreign Languages (ULIS):

Foreign Language University expands direct admission - 1
Foreign Language University expands direct admission - 4
Foreign Language University expands direct admission - 3
Foreign Language University expands direct admission - 2

In addition, the school considers candidates with A-Level certificates in three subjects (Math or Literature required) according to the combinations, achieving 60/100 points for each subject, SAT score from 1100/1600, ACT score from 22/36 or higher. Candidates should note that they need to register to take the high school graduation exam in 2024.

With the admission method using the competency assessment test score , candidates need to have a graduation exam score of 6 or higher in the Foreign Language subject and a competency assessment score of Hanoi National University of Science and Technology of Vietnam of 80/150 points or higher. If using the competency assessment test score of Ho Chi Minh City National University, this condition is 750/1,200 points.

Finally, ULIS considers the high school graduation exam scores with about 1,000 targets, the most among the methods. The admission score is the total score of the exams according to the combination, in which Foreign Language is doubled, plus priority points. Each major has only one admission score, without distinguishing the admission scores between the combinations.

The University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, this year recruited 2,350 students, an increase of 400. Last year, the school's admission score, based on graduation exam scores, ranged from 26.68 to 37.21 on a scale of 40. The English Pedagogy major had the highest score.
