Dai Duc: Promoting community tourism development

Báo Quảng NinhBáo Quảng Ninh15/05/2023

Dai Duc Commune is located in the Northeast of Tien Yen, about 23km from the district center. Dai Duc currently has 7 ethnic groups living together, of which the San Chi ethnic group accounts for 83.3%. The natural landscape with a system of terraced fields and charming waterfalls is an opportunity for the locality to develop community tourism and eco-tourism.

One of the obvious changes that has helped Dai Duc commune confidently develop community tourism is the traffic infrastructure. Coming to Dai Duc now, the roads are much more open, no longer muddy and difficult to move like before. This has helped the number of tourists coming to the locality increase year after year.

Mr. Ninh A Lieng's house still retains the characteristics of the San Chi ethnic group.

Ms. Hoang Thi Dao, a cultural officer of Dai Duc commune, said: Currently, the commune still preserves a number of rammed earth houses with the typical architectural style of the San Chi people. A typical example is the house of Mr. Ninh A Lieng in Khe Luc village. This is a house that is still almost intact, with a system of stone fences arranged very delicately and beautifully.

It took us more than 30 minutes to reach Mr. Ninh A Lieng's house. The house is quite isolated from the surrounding residential area, the airy and cool space helps visitors forget the noise of the city.

Mr. Ninh A Lieng said: This house was built in 1969 and is mainly made of wood, including the frame, partitions, and rafters. The floor is 0.3-0.5m higher than the ground. The main room is used to receive guests and is divided into many bedrooms. Next to the bedrooms, the kitchen is located in the center of the house, above the kitchen there is a loft to store seeds and utensils made of bamboo. In addition to the main house, the house also has two wings on both sides.

The stone wall is very elaborate and beautiful.

The depth of a San Chi house is on average 5-9 rows of columns, each row of columns is 2.5-3m apart. The columns are connected by the top of the truss and are made of wood. To prevent the wood from warping and to ensure its durability, it must be soaked in a mud pond for 1-3 years, then dried before being used as house columns. Therefore, even after many years, the wooden columns in a San Chi house are still sturdy, and are not affected by termites due to the smoke and dust from the wood stove.

Because it is surrounded by hills and mountains, Dai Duc has many large and small streams originating from above. These include Nam Vam waterfall which is over 30m high, Co Bay waterfall which is over 40m high, Khe Luc My waterfall which is over 50m high, or A Chu Lan waterfall which is over 60m high. These are great places for tourists to walk and take souvenir photos.

Along with the stream system, Dai Duc commune also has many famous mountains and hills. Located about 200m from Nam Vam waterfall at an altitude of more than 400m above sea level, Tinh hill is a complex of more than 200ha of pine forest, this is where San Chi boys and girls often date and sing Soong co love songs.

Thanks to growing rice on the hillsides around the commune, the locals have created an extremely beautiful terraced field system. This is a check-in spot that is very popular with tourists, becoming more and more known, especially after the success of the San Chi Cultural and Sports Festival in 2020 with the theme "Golden season of Soong Co land".

Tuyet Tinh Coc, one of the places that attracts many tourists to visit thanks to its open space.

“During the recent April 30 and May 1 holidays, Dai Duc commune’s tourist attractions welcomed nearly 1,000 visitors. This is a very encouraging sign for the local community tourism development goal. Currently, we have also had investment directions, encouraging the development of many other locations, especially propagating to people not to encroach or destroy the landscape, in order to preserve the built works, as well as the natural landscape” - Ms. Hoang Thi Dao added.
