Forced displacement of Palestinians is ethnic cleansing

(CLO) Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on February 6 that any proposal involving the forced relocation of Palestinians from their homeland would be considered ethnic cleansing and a violation of international law.

The statement came after US President Donald Trump proposed a US takeover of the Gaza Strip.

"Malaysia firmly rejects any proposal that could lead to the forced displacement or forced removal of Palestinians from their homeland. Such inhumane acts constitute ethnic cleansing and are in clear violation of international law and multiple United Nations resolutions," the Malaysian Foreign Ministry stressed in a press release.

The Malaysian government affirms that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

As a Muslim-majority country, Malaysia has long been a strong supporter of Palestinian rights and has consistently pushed for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that Malaysia maintains good relations with Hamas' political wing, but has no links with the group's military wing.

Malaysia's statement comes amid President Trump's proposal for US control of the Gaza Strip after the war, while suggesting the resettlement of Palestinians in neighboring countries. This proposal has caused strong controversy in the international arena.

Many countries and human rights organizations say forcing Palestinians to leave Gaza could violate the Geneva Conventions and United Nations resolutions, which protect the Palestinians' right to live in their homeland.

The European Union (EU) has also expressed concern that any plans involving the forced relocation of Palestinians are legally and morally unacceptable.

Several Arab countries, including Egypt and Jordan, have flatly rejected the idea of resettling Palestinians, insisting that the only solution is to establish an independent Palestinian state, not to relocate their population.

With strong opposition from many sides, President Trump's proposal is facing a wave of fierce criticism globally.
