Horse riding, archery, running competition on the opening day

Students rode horses and shot arrows for the first time on the opening day of Hanoi National University at Hoa Lac campus.

On the morning of October 12, the Hanoi National University urban area in Hoa Lac was more crowded with students than usual. All gathered to attend the opening ceremony of the new school year and participate in cultural, artistic and sports activities.

The area where the race was held was the most crowded. Hoang Anh Van, a first-year student at the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences, was excited to participate in the race for the first time on the opening day of school.

"I found the activity very meaningful so I signed up for two events: the 100m relay and the 5,000m race," said Anh Van.

The male student believes that this activity is a way to promote the spirit of physical education and sports, and at the same time, it is a step to create momentum for students to be excited to enter the new school year. This is also an opportunity for Van to connect and interact with other students throughout Hanoi National University and teachers at the school.

Ms. Vu Thi Huong Giang, from the Examination Center, was also very excited to participate in the relay race. "Not only students, but also staff and lecturers need to practice physical exercise and sports," Ms. Giang said, adding that this was the first time a race was held on the opening day of the entire Hanoi National University.

Right next to the running area, many students experienced horse riding, archery, throwing cones, and bamboo dancing. These are traditional sports and folk games that are expected to be included in the Physical Education subject for students to choose from in the near future.

Thu Thao, a first-year student at the University of Education, was surprised when she tried horse riding for the first time. She video-called her mother to brag about the most special opening day ever.

"I just tried horse riding and throwing a shuttlecock. I also want to try bamboo dancing and archery. I will participate in as many activities as possible and take lots of photos as souvenirs," Thao said.

This year, the Hanoi National University urban area in Hoa Lac welcomed nearly 6,000 students from 8 affiliated schools and faculties, a 4-fold increase compared to last year. Among them are new students from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Technology, Vietnam-Japan University, University of Law, University of Education, University of International Studies, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences and all 10th grade students of the High School of Educational Sciences.

Professor Le Quan, Director of Hanoi National University, said that this year the university is implementing a three-comprehensive education model for first-year students at Hoa Lac, including: Physically strong - Mentally strong - Good at social skills.

Starting from the second semester, Hanoi National University has built a new physical education program, officially introducing traditional martial arts into the curriculum along with many club-style activities, aiming to develop students' abilities and strengths, create interest, and maintain the habit of practicing sports.

In his message to new students, Mr. Quan shared that studying at university is a completely new journey, full of challenges but very important in the long journey ahead.

"I believe that from today's start, you will mature comprehensively in terms of expertise, ethics, qualities, physical strength and intelligence," said Mr. Quan.

Hanoi National University currently has 9 member universities, 2 schools and 2 affiliated faculties, 6 research institutes and training and scientific research centers, service units and knowledge transfer.

The master plan for investment in the construction of Hanoi National University in Hoa Lac was approved by the Prime Minister in October 2013, including 21 projects, with a scale of about 60,000 students. The campus is built according to the "5 in 1" model: Talent training center; technology transfer research center; innovation center; smart university urban area; public-private partnership testing center and research training.

Currently, Hanoi National University is focusing on building infrastructure, synchronizing related items such as lecture halls, dormitories, research areas, physical education, utility services, healthcare and experiential activity areas. It is expected that by 2025, the facilities in Hoa Lac will complete phase 1, put into operation to serve training and research with a scale of 15,000 students.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi aims to be in the top 100 in Asia and top 500 in the world by 2025; and in the top 300 by 2040. Currently, according to the rankings of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), Vietnam National University, Hanoi is in the top 1,000 universities in the world.
