Under the sponsorship of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, Srinakharinwirot University organized the "Vietnamese Speaking Contest at University Level in Thailand" to promote and spread the Vietnamese language in the Land of Golden Pagodas.

After 3 weeks of launching, on the afternoon of November 20, the final round of the contest took place at the Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University, attracting the attention of many Thai students and those who love Vietnamese culture.

Speaking at the opening of the final round, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University, Associate Professor, Dr. Anchalee Chansem expressed his honor to welcome distinguished guests, lecturers and contestants to the first Vietnamese speaking contest held among 5 universities in Thailand.

Ms. Anchalee emphasized that, in the context of the growing warm Thailand-Vietnam relationship, this event provides Thai students with a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their language skills, cultural understanding and mutual respect.

Associate Professor, Dr. Anchalee also praised the students for their efforts in studying and growing up, believing that the Vietnamese speaking contest is a new milestone in the educational cooperation and cultural exchange between Thailand and Vietnam.

Representing the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, Minister Counselor Bui Thi Hue affirmed that the Vietnam-Thailand relationship is developing well in many areas, especially within the framework of the enhanced strategic partnership. The two countries are not only friendly neighbors, but also important economic partners. Studying Vietnamese in Thailand will contribute significantly to strengthening the friendly relationship between the two countries, while opening up many new opportunities for students.

With the theme "Potential tour guides invite Vietnamese guests to Thailand", the final round of the university-level Vietnamese speaking contest in Thailand was held in a live format.

Specifically, the 15 finalists will take turns on stage to introduce a place in Thailand that they love in Vietnamese, based on a clip they made in the qualifying round. After that, the contestants will answer questions in Vietnamese from the judges related to the content of the video they presented.

It can be said that, although they have not studied Vietnamese for long, most of the 15 finalists performed well in their exams. With a rich Vietnamese vocabulary and the ability to express themselves emotionally, the contestants "transformed" into real Vietnamese tour guides, taking the audience to historical sites, scenic spots, temples, museums, parks, and bustling markets in all regions of Thailand.

Not only showing their Vietnamese speaking talent, many contestants also demonstrated their deep understanding of Vietnamese culture when they performed in Vietnamese traditional costumes, wearing conical hats, and performing traditional Vietnamese music on the zither, zither, etc.

As one of the finalists, Kathira Phaosung, a third-year student from the Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University, said she has been studying Vietnamese for a year because she loves Vietnamese food and finds Vietnamese interesting.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Chiem, Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University, said that the school's wish when organizing this contest is to create a meaningful and motivating playground for Thai students who are studying Vietnamese with specific goals, and have a forum to show their learning results as well as their Vietnamese speaking talent to everyone.

At the end of the competition, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung and Associate Professor, Dr. Anchalee presented awards to the contestants with the best performances.

The special prize went to Sirirak Narinuon, a student at Srinakharinwirot University, for his excellent presentation of the Temple of the Golden Mount (Wat Saket) in Bangkok. The first prize went to Pitchaya Ditson, also from Srinakharinwirot University, for her presentation of Chatuchak Market, a popular weekend destination in Bangkok. Two second and two third prizes, along with nine consolation prizes, were awarded to students from Srinakharinwirot University, Udon Thani Rajabaht University and Thammasat University.

The leaders of the Vietnamese Embassy affirmed that through this contest, students can not only improve their Vietnamese language skills but also have a great opportunity to exchange, learn and share experiences with each other. The contest has created a useful intellectual playground, contributing to promoting the learning of Vietnamese and enhancing understanding of Vietnamese culture in Thailand.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand also expressed that it will continue to support and accompany the school in developing the Vietnamese language teaching program in the coming time./.
