Electricity supply in 2025: Highest growth of over 16%

ANTD.VN - The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed three power supply scenarios for 2025 to proactively plan supply and ensure there is no power shortage.

Ready for power supply plans in 2025

According to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, in 2025, the country's economy is forecast to continue to grow strongly, FDI capital to Vietnam is quite large, many key national projects have been and are being implemented, the Electricity Law (amended) is expected to be passed in this session and will take effect in early 2025... so electricity supply needs to ensure growth of 11% or more.

Based on proposals from relevant units, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien agreed on three power supply scenarios for 2025, including:

Scenario 1 (Baseline scenario): Electricity growth must reach 11-12%, dry season months must reach 13% or more.

Scenario 2 (High scenario): From 12-13% or more, dry season months must reach 14% or more.

Scenario 3 (Extreme scenario): Must reach 14-15% or more, dry season months must reach 16% or more.

“Based on the above electricity supply scenario, the Department of Oil and Gas - Coal will preside over and coordinate with relevant units to complete the development of a plan for coal and gas supply and reservoir operation, ensuring input supply for fuel and electricity supply conditions for 2025,” said Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.

During the period from November 15 to December 15, 2024, energy corporations and groups and related parties shall, based on the plan and chart announced by the Ministry, urgently develop detailed plans and sign responsibility contracts with related units to have a basis for implementation.

After December 15, the competent agencies under the Ministry are responsible for inspecting and supervising the signing of contracts and preparing conditions to ensure the implementation of the 2025 Electricity Supply Plan, promptly reporting and advising the Ministry's leaders to direct, operate and handle responsibilities (if any).

To prepare for sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development needs and people's lives in 2025, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested units to thoroughly grasp and seriously and effectively implement the goal of "Absolutely ensuring electricity supply in 2025, not allowing imbalance in electricity supply and demand in all situations, complying with legal regulations, optimizing electricity purchase costs for the entire system and ensuring harmony of interests of the State, enterprises and users".

Based on the 2025 electricity supply plan, units urgently develop plans and charts for coal and gas supply and inter-reservoir operations to ensure electricity production, fully and continuously meeting electricity demand according to the three scenarios mentioned above.
