According to a VNA correspondent in Havana, speaking at the online meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Prime Minister Marrero highlighted the importance of a more systematic and effective relationship between EAEU ministries and agencies and member and observer states. The head of the Cuban government affirmed the island nation's commitment to expanding and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with EAEU member states.
According to Mr. Marrero, Cuba values economic , trade, financial and cooperative relations with the EAEU and its member countries.
The Cuban prime minister said that Cuba and Belarus have cooperated for many years in agriculture and agribusiness. Mr. Marrero said that greater links in these areas would facilitate foreign investment in the development of livestock such as chicken, cattle, pork, as well as citrus, fruit trees, sugar, cocoa and coffee, as well as the development of cereals and seeds, as well as the creation of veterinary vaccines.
The Cuban Prime Minister stressed that exchanges must be promoted between the structures of the Eurasian Economic Commission with businessmen from the countries of the union and Cuba, with the aim of establishing direct links to encourage trade and cooperation as well as increase foreign investment.
On May 21, the Cuba-EAEU Business Forum took place in Havana with the participation of many businessmen in the fields of agriculture, health, medical services, tourism, culture, sports, chemical and metallurgical industry, transportation and foreign trade.
The Cuban Prime Minister said that the space “is an opportunity to get to know each other better, to delve deeper into the mechanisms of the EAEU and to promote cooperation and investment between the Cuban business community and businesses in the same sector from the member states of the Union”. Mr. Marrero stressed that the EAEU has become a platform for close economic interaction between its members and at the same time a promising actor on the international stage.
The EAEU is an international economic integration organization comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, with a total population of about 184 million people and a combined GDP of $1.9 trillion. Cuba, Moldova and Uzbekistan are observers of the union.
