The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is stepping up efforts to gain observer status at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, said Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEK) Council Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
This issue was discussed in detail at a meeting between EEK Council Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintayev and UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua on September 20 at the UN headquarters in New York.
Speaking about the EAEU's cooperation with UN agencies, Mr. Sagintayev noted that the commission pays special attention to the UN agenda in the field of sustainable development.
“In particular, the Treaty on the EAEU and other basic documents cover all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as 108 out of 169 key tasks for achieving these goals,” the EEK Council Chairman said.
During the talks, Mr. Li Junhua emphasized the important role of the EAEU among regional economic integration organizations, expressing confidence in the new impetus for cooperation between the EAEU and the UN.
