During the peak Tet holiday this year, it is expected that 5.5 million airline tickets will be sold on the market.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport received a petition from voters in Binh Thuan province stating that "airfares are high and unstable", hoping that the Ministry of Transport would consider reducing prices.

According to the Ministry of Transport, airfares (both international and domestic) are currently implemented according to a flexible fare mechanism with many price ranges from low to high depending on market conditions (supply - demand), ticket conditions, ticket issuance time, service quality, etc.

Currently, Vietnamese airlines declare domestic air transport service prices with many price levels to meet passenger needs and ensure they are within the price range prescribed in circulars of the Ministry of Transport.

Workers abstain from drinking to save money to buy plane tickets for Tet, tearfully: 'There's no money left over all year!'

According to the market mechanism, during peak periods (demand increases too much compared to supply), airlines increase the rate of selling tickets at high prices. On the contrary, during low periods or flights at the beginning of holidays and Tet, the demand for passenger transportation is very low (demand decreases sharply compared to supply), so airlines lower ticket prices.

For the 2024 Lunar New Year, the Ministry of Transport requires airlines to increase flights during peak days.

According to a report by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Transport), during the peak period of the Lunar New Year 2024, airlines are expected to provide 5.5 million seats on domestic routes, an increase of 4% compared to the Lunar New Year 2023 and approximately 2.1 million seats on international routes, an increase of 36.8% compared to the Lunar New Year last year.

The Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to monitor ticket sales and bookings of airlines during the Lunar New Year holiday to find solutions to supplement capacity on routes with high demand to meet passenger needs.

At the same time, airports are required to prepare resources to serve the night flight needs of airlines on domestic routes according to the airlines' plans.

Direct airports and airlines to comply with regulations on price declaration, price posting, and price information disclosure, and not to allow illegal ticket price increases.

The Ministry of Transport has also directed railway and road enterprises to coordinate and increase transportation capacity to meet people's travel needs during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
