On June 19, Master, Doctor Le Quoc Toan, General Surgery specialist, Xuyen A General Hospital, Vinh Long, said that through examination and testing, CT scan results showed that the patient's liver was severely cirrhotic and had a 3 cm right liver tumor, with typical images of liver cancer.
Taking medical history, the patient's family said that he had a history of chronic hepatitis C but did not receive regular treatment.
The patient was diagnosed with liver cancer on the basis of cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis C and planned to treat the liver tumor by ablation. Because the tumor was located high and difficult to reach, protruding from the liver surface and close to the diaphragm, the doctors decided to ablate the liver tumor with microwaves under the guidance of laparoscopic surgery.
The surgery was performed smoothly, the tumor was burned within 10 minutes under direct observation of the endoscope, the surrounding organs were well protected, not damaged. The patient was then discharged from the hospital and no complications were recorded.
Dr. Le Quoc Toan added that liver cancer is a highly malignant cancer with a short average survival time. Because the early stages of liver cancer have no symptoms, most liver cancers are detected at a late stage and cannot be completely treated.
"People with hepatitis and cirrhosis are at high risk of liver cancer, so they need to be checked regularly with ultrasound to screen for liver tumors to detect tumors at an early stage. For small tumors, microwave or high-frequency ablation is a radical, minimally invasive treatment method with a low risk of complications," Dr. Toan recommended.
