GĐXH - The patient had a history of hepatitis B and C but due to regular treatment and periodic general health check-ups, he was fortunate to have discovered the liver tumor when it was still small.
According to information from Xuyen A General Hospital, during a recent general examination, Mr. PNQ (65 years old, Tay Ninh) was advised by doctors to have a CT scan and liver ultrasound. The results showed that he had a liver tumor in the lower lobes VI - VII.
After evaluating based on CT images and tests, the doctors of the General Surgery Department diagnosed this as hepatocellular carcinoma with a size of 2 - 3cm. After a consultation and agreement from the patient, the doctors decided to perform laparoscopic surgery to resect the posterior segment of the liver containing the tumor.

Dr. Pham Minh Tien - General Surgery Department said: "The part of the liver with the tumor in the right flank area is difficult to access, so we decided to perform laparoscopic surgery with a small incision in the lower flank area to remove the posterior segment of the liver containing the tumor, ensuring liver function. Laparoscopic surgery with a small incision, minimally invasive, helps patients recover quickly.
This patient had a history of hepatitis B and C but was regularly monitored and treated. Furthermore, the patient also had regular general health check-ups, so fortunately the liver tumor was detected when it was still small, making treatment much easier than in cases where the tumor had progressed to a large extent.
After 7 days of surgery, the patient was able to eat and return to normal activities.
Liver cancer is a latent disease, most patients discover the disease when the tumor has progressed severely. Therefore, Dr. Tien recommends that patients with high risk factors such as frequent alcohol consumption, hepatitis B, C should have a general examination as well as a liver ultrasound every 3-6 months to detect early liver damage for timely intervention, bringing high treatment efficiency.
Doctors said that recently, doctors here have successfully performed many liver resection surgeries due to various diseases such as liver cirrhosis, liver tumors, and liver stones. All surgeries are performed by laparoscopic methods with small incisions, minimally invasive. The amount of blood lost during surgery is only about 200ml, thereby minimizing risks during surgery, ensuring stable health for patients, and shortening recovery time.
