There are many coal-related units in Cam Pha, so the city faces risks of environmental pollution caused by dust, gas, and wastewater from coal mines. As a unit specializing in environmental protection in the field of mineral production and exploitation, in recent years, the Environment Company Limited has implemented many projects to join hands in protecting the environment of the mining city.
Every year, coal mines in Cam Pha discharge tens of millions of cubic meters of mine wastewater. In particular, underground coal mine wastewater contains toxic pollutants. With the task of being the investor, constructor, operator, and trader of mine environmental works, the Environment Company Limited has implemented mine wastewater treatment projects with increasingly modern technology.

For example, at Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company, on average, production generates nearly 30,000m3 of wastewater per day and night. After being treated through technological stages, wastewater that meets type B standards will be discharged into the environment through sewers, ditches, and streams. A part of the mine wastewater after treatment from the technological system of the Environmental Company Limited is collected through pipes to the wastewater treatment system of Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company, continued to be treated to meet type A standards for industrial wastewater and reused for industrial washing and cleaning.
Currently, the Environment Company Limited manages 16 wastewater treatment plants in Cam Pha City. To ensure the maintenance of the quality of treated wastewater, in addition to improving the technology, the company also regularly monitors and tests water samples. Therefore, every day, at each wastewater treatment plant, workers regularly check the quality of treated wastewater with a pH meter and by senses. In particular, the company has signed a contract with the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring (Department of Natural Resources and Environment) to conduct periodic water sample testing. Thereby, contributing to limiting the risk of affecting underground water sources and changing water quality, causing negative impacts on the environment and human health.
In 2024, in Cam Pha area alone, the company will implement 2 projects: Increasing the capacity of Coc Sau Wastewater Treatment Plant and +40 inclined well wastewater treatment plant of Duong Huy Coal Company. Regarding Coc Sau Wastewater Treatment Plant, after many years of operation of the mine, in response to the increasing demand for deep mining, TKV has invested in increasing the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant from 2,400m3/h to 4,800m3/h with a total investment of nearly 130 billion VND. This is one of the stations with the largest wastewater treatment capacity today. Currently, the company is preparing for investment; the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in the first quarter of 2026. This wastewater treatment plant, when put into use, will thoroughly treat all untreated excess wastewater from the coal mining process of Deo Nai - Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company to ensure the permitted standards before discharging into the environment and reuse a part of the clean water for domestic use.

The +40 inclined well wastewater treatment plant of Duong Huy Coal Company has a capacity of 1,800m3/h, collecting and treating all excess wastewater at the pumping pits at levels: -100, -250 and -350 of Khe Tam coal mine. The project will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2026.
Along with focus wastewater treatment mines, hazardous waste, to ensure the environment and safety in production, the Environmental Company Limited also performs regular maintenance, repair, management, and protection of environmental works to ensure the stability of environmental works. Typically, it carries out environmental renovation and restoration of all waste dumps and production sites after stopping exploitation. In addition, the company regularly dredges settling pits, drainage rivers and streams; handles, overcomes, and prevents natural disasters and environmental incidents that arise during the annual rainy and stormy season to minimize impacts on residential areas.
The attention to investing in environmental protection projects of the Environmental One Member Co., Ltd. in coal production activities has gradually reduced the impact of coal and mineral mining and processing on the environment of Cam Pha City.
