The death of a preschool child after being left in a car in Thai Binh has once again raised a warning about ensuring student safety.

Many opinions were raised and many solutions were proposed to maximize the safety of the living environment for children. What is worth mentioning is that, according to the grandmother, the child was sitting right behind the driver's seat but was still... forgotten. The teacher was equipped to take attendance, but even though she discovered the student's absence, she did not contact the family to find out the reason.
After the heartbreaking incident, Thai Binh province also requested to immediately establish a process for picking up and dropping off children. This is necessary, but what we aim for is human awareness. Without irresponsible people, the environment for children will certainly be safer.
Previously, in August 2019, in Hanoi, a boy from Gateway School also died after being forgotten in a bus on the first day of school. In September 2019, a child was forgotten in a school bus in Bac Ninh but was fortunately saved in time. In 2020, a male student in Hanoi was also forgotten in a school bus. After waking up, he knocked on the door and was rescued.
After the unfortunate incident, schools can proactively equip their school buses with safety monitoring tools. However, all processes and technologies are only support systems to minimize negligence caused by human irresponsibility. Human awareness must be the key and decisive factor.
Some people say, "drivers, school bus drivers, and teachers must understand that they are bringing a human being onto the bus and should not be allowed to forget it." Others say that the incident of a preschool child being left on the bus and resulting in death is entirely the fault of adults. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on solutions with adults, especially those who directly pick up and drop off students.
Indeed, with the development of surveillance technology today, many countries in the world have installed safety devices on school buses. In the educational environment and the raising and care of children, machines and technology used to monitor children are only supplementary tools, absolutely cannot replace human consciousness, conscience and professional responsibility.
Towards International Children's Day (June 1) and the Month of Action for Children, adults will have to look back at themselves and adjust themselves. Ensuring a safe and healthy living environment for children to grow up is the duty and responsibility of all adults. This has also been clearly stipulated in draft laws related to children, in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which Vietnam is one of the earliest signatories.
However, the implementation still has many limitations. Every year, drowning accidents alone take the lives of over 2,000 children. There are still many injuries occurring in children, including injuries occurring in the family, injuries occurring in schools, child abuse and child molestation still exist with alarming annual reports... In the coming time, we need to really pay more attention to creating a healthy and safe living environment for children.
Currently, the draft Law on Road Traffic Safety and Order, which is being prepared for approval by the National Assembly at this session, also includes stricter regulations and standards on school buses. Many National Assembly deputies have also spoken out about this issue, suggesting that school buses should be tightened and surveillance cameras installed on school buses should be studied and tested. Any measures that can ensure the safety of children need to be researched and tested. However, humans still play a key role in the journey of transporting, caring for, and educating children, so that no student is left behind. Just one mistake or negligence by adults will cost a very high price.
Because the core problem still lies in people, in the responsibility for work and the carefulness of each person, each position. No matter how many devices are installed, how much technology is equipped, if it is only to cope and meet the conditions, it is meaningless...
