Police investigate case of 20 preschool children suspected of rat poison poisoning

On November 6, Tam Duong District Police, Lai Chau Province said they were investigating the incident, first of all the origin of the biological rat poison that appeared in the school.

Previously, at 10:00 a.m. on November 5, Lai Chau General Hospital received 20 children suspected of being poisoned by rat poison, including 2 children with symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, and crying.

Lai Chau Department of Health coordinated with Bach Mai Hospital's Poison Control Center and doctors to carry out emergency procedures for rat poison poisoning according to regulations of the Ministry of Health and instructions of experts.

According to Giang Ma Kindergarten, the 25-36 month old kindergarten class has 20 students and 2 teachers in charge, Ms. Lo Thi Thien and Ms. Dinh Thi Huong. On the morning of November 5, when the incident happened, one teacher was in the restroom, while the other was taking care of the children.

At around 8:30 a.m. the same day, when returning to the classroom, the teacher discovered some children holding pink pills suspected to be biological rat poison.

It is known that all children have had their blood tested and necessary paraclinical tests performed, fluids given, and treatment according to protocol; digestive fluids have been taken and sent for toxicology testing.

Currently, the children's health is stable and they continue to be monitored at the Pediatrics Department, Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital.
