From a manual coal mining site of Cam Pha Coal Enterprise, Coc Sau Coal Company has risen to win many records in the emulation movement of coal production and mining, becoming the leading bird of the coal industry. Now Coc Sau moon is at -300, the deepest level in the coal industry, generations of Coc Sau workers are still persistent and creative in writing the history of their tradition.
In 1888, after invading the mine, the French established the French Coal Company of Tonkin (SFCT) in Quang Ninh, considering the Cam Pha mine area as a large mining area. Among them, Coc Sau was considered the largest manual mining area. Under the oppression of the French mine owners, the workers at Coc Sau mine rose up to fight strongly, contributing to the general struggle movement of the workers in the mining area. In 1955, we took over the mine area, Coc Sau coal mine was then a manual mining site of the Cam Pha Coal Enterprise.
On August 1, 1960, the Prime Minister issued Decision 707/BCN-K2 to establish Coc Sau Coal Enterprise under the Hon Gai Coal Company with 1,800 workers. At that time, mining machinery and equipment were still very rudimentary, the entire mine had only 2 people with university degrees, 4 people with intermediate degrees, the rest were mainly simple laborers.
In the midst of numerous difficulties, the cadres and workers of Coc Sau mine have been enthusiastic and passionate about their work, launching many strong emulation movements with the spirit of "coal production is like the army fighting the enemy". Many typical emulation fighters and generals of the coal industry have appeared, such as: Lai Thi Gai, Ha Quang Hop, Tran Thi Be, Ta Khac Tuong, Nguyen Duy Thien and a number of other typical examples.
Remembering the beginning of 2022, we had the opportunity to meet Ms. Lai Thi Gai, the first coal industry champion of Coc Sau Coal. She recounted: At that time, coal mining was still primitive, mainly based on human power, life was still difficult, but the competitive spirit and labor of workers and cadres were unmatched. Everyone strived to exceed the assigned plan, setting new records.
At the 3rd National Party Congress in September 1960, Uncle Ho praised the cadres and workers of Coc Sau coal mine: "If all construction sites and factories learn from Coc Sau coal, then surely our upcoming 5-year plan will be completed and completed ahead of schedule."
Uncle Ho's words were the motivation for Coc Sau coal to compete and work better. In particular, during this period, Coc Sau began mining underground, initiating new coal mining technology, helping the mine increase its output by 150-200%. In 1964, Coc Sau coal reached a record, a proud milestone when it reached an output of 1.2 million tons of coal, twice the total coal output of the whole North in 1955.
Continuing the momentum, in the following years, output continuously increased rapidly. In the atmosphere of "coal production as the army fights the enemy", "all for the beloved South", the cadres and workers of Coc Sau coal mine became more enthusiastic and creative in the movements of lowering the mine, building dams to prevent water, and bringing excavators down to the mine. Thanks to that, the coal output of Coc Sau in the period of 1960-1975 was nearly 11.6 million tons. In 1968, Coc Sau coal received a letter of praise from Uncle Ho.
By 2005, Coc Sau set a new milestone, reaching a production of 3 million tons of coal, while conquering a mine bottom depth of -150m above sea level. The deeper the mine goes, the higher the requirements for mining technology and techniques. Along with modern technology, technical staff are creative in preventing water, treating mud, mixing it with soil and rock for easy transportation, and cleaning the mine bottom to excavate coal.
According to the report of Coc Sau Coal Company, in 10 years (2011-2020), the Company has exploited 24 million tons of coal. In 2023, the Company strives to exploit 1.5 million tons of coal. Coc Sau's mining site has reached a depth of -300 compared to sea level, the deepest mining level in the coal industry, and is also a mine with a rare depth in the world today.
The narrower the mining area, the more difficult it is. The mining technology and the intelligence and creativity of Coc Sau coal workers and technicians are still being promoted, making efforts to continue writing the glorious traditional page.
