A series of attacks in Syria killed 17 people, including an Iranian military adviser and a WHO employee.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on March 26 that the attack targeted the city of Deir ez-Zor and the town of Al Bukamal near the border. Among the targets of the airstrike was a villa in Deir ez-Zor that serves as a communications center in the area.
According to SOHR, the attack killed an adviser to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), two bodyguards, nine Iraqi gunmen and four Syrian gunmen from pro-Iranian militia groups.
On the same day, World Health Organization (WHO) director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that Emad Shehab, an engineer at the agency coordinating water and sanitation issues in Deir Ez-Zor, was killed in the attack.

SOHR did not say who carried out the attacks. Deir Ez-Zor has been hit by US and Israeli airstrikes. IRNA reported that Israel carried out the attacks, and Tel Aviv has not commented on the information.
Meanwhile, Syria's SANA news agency accused the US of carrying out the attack. However, a US official said the country's military "did not launch any airstrikes overnight".
Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes against pro-Iranian militias in Syria fighting alongside President Bashar al-Assad's forces, but rarely claims responsibility.
The US has also repeatedly attacked pro-Iranian militias that it has accused of repeatedly attacking US interests in Iraq and Syria during the Israel-Hamas war. A US airstrike in February on targets in Deir Ez-Zor and Al Mayadin, Syria, killed 29 pro-Iranian fighters.
The operation was in retaliation for an attack on a US base in Jordan that killed three Jordanian soldiers and raised fears of a direct confrontation between the US and Iran. Pro-Iranian militias have since refrained from attacking US targets in Syria.
