Vietnamese player causes shock, defeats 13-time World Cup champion

After Tran Quyet Chien won (against Roland Forthomme), the remaining 3 Vietnamese players, Nguyen Hoan Tat, Dao Van Ly and Bao Phuong Vinh, also played their opening match in the 32nd round of the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup on the morning of November 8, all facing tough opponents.

Dao Van Ly faced the "legendary" player who won 13 World Cup championships, Eddy Merckx (Belgium). The Vietnamese player played a very good match, with an average scoring efficiency of over 3 points and won convincingly against the veteran of the world 's 3-cushion carom billiards.

Van Ly had series of 6, 7, 8 and 9 points. He only needed 13 shots to reach 40 points first (averaging 3.076 points/shot) and won the final 40-24 against Eddy Merckx.
