South Korean police have discussed plans to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol as the head of the security agency protecting Yoon has resigned.
Yonhap news agency reported that the National Office of Investigation (NOI) summoned the heads of Seoul police investigation teams, Gyeonggi Province and other units in the South Korean capital region to the NOI headquarters to discuss plans to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached and suspended by parliament for declaring martial law in December 2024. Police are also investigating him on charges of rebellion and abuse of power.
The court ordered his temporary detention and the investigation agency executed the arrest warrant on January 3 but was stopped by the security team. The court approved a new arrest warrant on January 7 after the original warrant expired.
On January 9, the NOI sent a notice to investigation teams in the Seoul capital area, asking them to prepare to mobilize about 1,000 personnel for the second round of arrests.
On January 10, the director of the Presidential Security Service (PSS), Park Chong-jun, submitted his resignation and appeared before the police to give testimony on charges of obstructing investigators from executing an arrest warrant. Acting President Choi Sang-mok accepted Park's resignation.

Speaking to reporters before meeting investigators, Mr. Park said government agencies should not confront each other. "There should be no clashes and bloodshed under any circumstances. I think the investigation should proceed in a manner befitting the position of a sitting president," Mr. Park said.
Yoon Suk Yeol has refused to comply with a summons from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Office (CIO) for questioning, saying the agency has no jurisdiction. Security has been beefed up around his residence, with police setting up buses and barbed wire fences at the entrance.
On the other hand, the Constitutional Court of South Korea is considering the impeachment of Mr. Yoon. If found guilty, he will be removed from office. If not, he will be reinstated. Mr. Yoon's lawyers say he will accept any ruling of the Constitutional Court.
