Fire causes human damage
In recent times, electrical equipment fires have occurred in Hai Phong and Hanoi, causing many casualties. In response to this situation, Hanoi City Police have introduced a number of fire prevention and fighting measures, as well as recommendations for the people.
First, we must determine the time when fires are most likely to break out and lead to fatalities, which is dawn. Because this is the time when people are fast asleep, especially in the summer when the air conditioner is often turned on and the doors are closed, so when a fire breaks out on the first floor or a neighboring floor, it cannot be detected.
When the fire spreads and the smoke covers the area, the person sleeping can inhale it and pass out, leading to unpredictable consequences. In other cases, when sleeping at midnight, the fire is discovered in the early morning but the fire has spread, while the tube houses do not have a second escape route, also causing heartbreaking consequences. This is the time zone where fires often occur in electrical equipment, rechargeable batteries, phones, computers, etc.
According to the report of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force - Ministry of Public Security , from the beginning of 2023 to now, there have been 117 fires nationwide, including 32 electrical short circuits and charging device fires, mainly occurring in urban areas.
Fire prevention experts analyze that the main cause of electrical equipment fires is due to poor quality equipment and the owner's lack of attention to maintenance, maintenance, and replacement of the expiration date. Meanwhile, for charging that does not comply with regulations, most people follow the habit of charging electrical equipment from evening to morning. Because at night the power source is stronger, the charger is full but still plugged in, many charging devices have charging relays that do not work, leading to the electric current still acting, causing heat and fire and explosion. When there is a fire or explosion, for urban housing types, which are usually tube houses, there are many items, even motorbikes parked right next to them, leading to the fire spreading to the gasoline.
According to the police, households need to ensure and maintain fire safety conditions to eliminate and minimize the risk of fire and explosion. People's awareness of fire safety will be a safety measure for themselves and their loved ones. Compliance with regulations, and strict adherence to the principle of "turning off when not using electricity, checking charging equipment, if charging electrical equipment overnight, absolutely do not leave any objects nearby, especially motorbikes".
Fire Police recommends
Faced with the recent incidents of house fires and explosions, the police agency recommends a number of fire prevention measures such as:
Do not hook up or connect electrical wires arbitrarily; do not thread electrical wires through foam ceilings, foam, or corrugated iron roofs without plastic conduits; do not use multiple high-power electrical devices in the same outlet; do not charge phones, computers, or electric bicycles overnight.
In addition, before going to bed or leaving the house, people need to check the cooking and incense-burning places; turn off unnecessary devices; choose electrical wires of clear quality and origin; regularly check and replace damaged electrical equipment and power grids.
According to Hanoi City Police, each household needs to calculate, design, and install the electrical system in the house to ensure standards and technical requirements; should choose high-quality electrical wires to run underground in the wall; choose electrical wires with cross-sections suitable for the load-bearing capacity of the electrical consuming device; electrical wire joints must be technically correct, staggered and wrapped with insulating tape.
Charging overnight and sealed “tiger cages” are dangers, warnings for urban households. Charging devices on the first floor are left overnight, but on the upper floors and balconies are sealed with iron cages and in case of fire, there is no escape route.
Therefore, each family needs to have an escape plan and share it with family members, especially opening an escape route and removing the iron cage. Families should limit leaving children alone at home.
In case of fire, if you have to walk through fire and smoke, you must use wet towels to protect your respiratory system; do not take shelter under the bed, wardrobe, or in the bathroom; before opening the door, use the back of your hand to check the temperature.
Currently, the weather is sunny, hot and fires and explosions often have complicated developments. In particular, electrical equipment is more susceptible to fire and explosion, because batteries are often hotter and have a shorter charging time than usual. Therefore, the Fire Police and Rescue Force recommends that units, establishments and households raise their vigilance and be careful when using electrical equipment at night, focusing on checking fire sources, heat sources and flammable substances. People need to pay special attention to safety measures when using electricity and electrical equipment, contributing to curbing the increase in the number of cases and damage caused by fires and explosions.
