On the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam of the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Erling Rimestad, the Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development jointly organized the Workshop "Vietnam - Norway: Opportunities for cooperation in aquaculture and seafood export".

State Secretary Erling Rimestad appreciates bilateral relations

The workshop aims to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Norway and Vietnam in the field of fisheries. It is also expected to be a forum for authorities, businesses and stakeholders of the two countries to meet, learn and promote practical solutions and opportunities to strengthen cooperation.

At the workshop, the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) announced a new plan to promote and market seafood products from Norway in the Vietnamese market and to Vietnamese consumers.

In his first visit to Vietnam, State Secretary Erling Rimestad highly appreciated the bilateral relationship in many fields, especially the effective coordination in the fisheries sector.

“Norway and Vietnam share a common interest in the equitable and sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture in the context of increasing global challenges, especially climate change. Technological innovation will play a key role in ensuring success. Many new opportunities will also open up from here to deepen our traditional cooperation,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien highly appreciated Norway's support for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, especially the fisheries sector, over the past 30 years, from building a legal framework, providing technical assistance, training and capacity building. He said, "This workshop is an opportunity for the two sides to deepen bilateral relations in the field of industrial marine aquaculture and promote seafood trade, realizing the areas of cooperation stated in the letter of intent that the two sides signed in May 2021".

The Deputy Minister updated information on achievements in Vietnam's seafood production and export last year; at the same time, shared policies, strategies, and development orientations for Vietnam's seafood industry to effectively and sustainably develop the marine aquaculture industry in the coming decades.

With similar long coastlines, Norway and Vietnam are both leading seafood exporters in the world.
