100% of the spring rice planting area in the province this year has been mechanized in the land preparation stage and over 35% of the rice area has been transplanted by machine - this is an important step to help reduce labor, optimize production costs, and move towards modern and sustainable agriculture.
Farmers in Song Lang commune (Vu Thu) expand the area of planting machines.
With the goal of transforming agricultural production towards modernization, the province has been implementing many models of mechanization in rice production. In rice cultivation, the model of sowing rice seedlings in trays and transplanting by machine is considered one of the solutions to help free up labor, reduce production costs, increase productivity and improve economic efficiency for farmers.
In Thuy Ninh commune (Thai Thuy), the area of rice transplanted by machine has reached over 60%. Mr. Do Van Ninh, Head of Dong Mai village, said: In the spring crop of 2025, the village has 60 hectares, farmers mainly transplant rice seeds to supply to ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company. In the village, there are 4 transplanting machines, so nearly 70% of the spring rice area is transplanted by machine. Using transplanting machines helps save labor, ensures uniform planting density, thereby improving productivity and quality of rice. Thanks to the initiative of the people and the support of the Agricultural Production and Business Cooperative, machine transplanting is gradually becoming a popular method. Not only does it help reduce labor pressure during peak seasons, machine transplanting also helps reduce the amount of seeds, save costs while still ensuring good rice growth.
Mr. Bui Van Map, Dong Mai village said: My family cultivates 5 sao of rice fields, all stages are done by machine, from tilling the soil to sowing. Thanks to that, labor is significantly reduced, we only need to focus on caring for and monitoring the growth of the rice. When applying the machine transplanting method, one week after transplanting, the field is maintained at a reasonable water level, only the ground surface is leveled to avoid flooding the young roots. During the crop, the rice is fertilized twice with compound fertilizer combined with pest control, mainly leaf rollers.
Mechanization in planting brings high economic efficiency to farmers.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Them, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Thuy Ninh Agricultural Service Production and Trading Cooperative, the whole commune currently has over 445 hectares of cultivated land, of which 3.65 hectares are produced according to VietGAP standards. Up to now, 95% of the area has been completed with the rate of machine planting increasing, helping people significantly reduce labor time.
In Vu Thu, the rate of mechanization in agricultural production is increasingly high. The stages of land preparation, water regulation, and harvesting reach over 98%; the stage of sowing and transplanting reaches over 40%; the spraying of pesticides reaches over 10%; and the rice milling reaches 100%. This has contributed to liberating the labor force for farmers and increasing economic efficiency. In the spring crop of 2025, the district planted 7,500 hectares of rice, of which high-quality rice accounts for about 60% of the area. The main rice varieties include Bac Thom No. 7, Huong Com 4, TBR279, TBR97, Japonica rice group, glutinous rice varieties...; the group of high-yield rice varieties accounts for 40%, including TBR225, Thien Uu 8...
Mr. Hoang Van Luu, Director of Song Lang Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative, said that mechanization is an inevitable path. Currently, the number of agricultural workers accounts for only about 20 - 30% of the total local workforce. The reason is that young workers can easily find other jobs with higher incomes, so they gradually abandon their fields. In the spring crop of 2025, the land preparation stage will reach 100%, nearly 60% of the sowing and transplanting stage will be done by machine. Currently, cooperative staff regularly visit the fields to regulate water properly, ensuring enough water to keep the rice warm; at the same time, they advise farmers to stop fertilizing and using herbicides during cold days; and proactively take care of, prevent and control pests and diseases on crops according to the instructions of professional agencies.
Expanding the area of machine planting in localities not only helps to increase productivity but also creates the premise for sustainable development of the agricultural sector. In addition to mechanization, farmers also actively apply modern farming methods such as using organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers combined with biological plant protection measures to improve product quality.
Mr. Do Quy Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: In the spring crop of 2025, the whole province will plant about 74,000 hectares, striving for a yield of over 72 quintals/ha, and an output of over 520,000 tons. Continue to expand the area of tray sowing, machine planting, encourage people to accumulate and concentrate land, plant the same tea, same variety, and apply maximum mechanization in production. This helps create large output, facilitates product consumption linkage and improves production efficiency. Therefore, the agricultural sector continues to coordinate with departments, branches and localities to further promote the expansion of machine planting area, support technical training, guide farmers to access support mechanisms and policies from the state, and at the same time call on businesses to participate in production linkage and product consumption.
The promotion of mechanization in rice production, especially in the sowing and transplanting stage, has changed farmers' rice cultivation practices. Thereby helping to increase productivity, economic efficiency, and form large-scale fields in many localities.
Over 35% of spring rice area is transplanted by machine.
