Nigel Chua and Ravelyn Ong have been together for more than 8 years since they met at university. In 2017, when their love entered its second year, Nigel Chua decided to marry this girl.
He secretly prepared to propose to his girlfriend but never told her. In 2023, Nigel decided to reveal the whole truth to his girlfriend.
On May 1, 2023, he sent an email reminding his girlfriend to open the box he had given her for her birthday in 2018. She discovered inside the box were instructions for translating Morse code and clues to the codes inside the gift her boyfriend had given her in 2017.
The 2017 gift was filled with origami otters. Inside each otter was a code. By decoding the code, she pieced together the message he wanted to convey.
However, the inscription was missing three words. These words were hidden in two lavender bags that he gave her in 2019.
"The clues helped me figure out what the message was, 'Will you marry me?'" Ravelyn said.

After years of careful preparation, Nigel officially proposed to Ravelyn in May 2023. He invited their close friends to attend.
Ravelyn admitted it took her a while to calm down, but she said that no matter how the proposal was worded, it was something she had always wanted.
"I don't need decorations, flowers or a fancy venue. I just need him. I was surprised to learn that he had already prepared a proposal," she shared.
The couple's wedding took place at the end of 2023 with the blessings of family and relatives. In May 2024, to celebrate 8 years together, the couple held a small party.
