Petite girl Le Thi Tuyet won her first gold medal in the 10,000m national athletics event.

With the withdrawal of Vietnam's golden girl in athletics, Nguyen Thi Oanh ( Bac Giang ), from the 10,000 m event, it opens up competition opportunities for the remaining candidates, Pham Thi Hong Le (Binh Dinh), Pham Thi Hue (Quang Ninh), and Le Thi Tuyet (Phu Yen) at this year's national athletics championship.

Le Thi Tuyet crossed the finish line alone, winning her first gold medal in the 10,000m national athletics championship.

In the athletics event of the National Sports Festival last year, Le Thi Tuyet only finished third after Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Thi Hong Le, but this time the 19-year-old runner confirmed her progress with her first gold medal in the 10,000 m event.

The petite girl with a height of 1.45 m and weighing less than 40 kg excelled over the more experienced runner Pham Thi Hong Le to finish first with a time of 34 minutes 40 seconds 02. Hong Le came in second with a time of 35 minutes 53 seconds 34 and Bui Thi Thu Ha ( Thanh Hoa ) came in third with a time of 36 minutes 42 seconds 67.

Sharing after winning the gold medal, Le Thi Tuyet said she was very happy and would try harder to improve her performance. "When competing, I didn't think I would win a gold medal or break a record. My goal was to execute the right tactics and maintain the pace of the competition according to the coach's instructions," said Le Thi Tuyet.

At last year's National Sports Festival, Le Thi Tuyet surprisingly won the gold medal in the marathon (42.195 km). Thanks to that, she won a place to attend the 32nd SEA Games (May 2023) in Cambodia and excellently won the silver medal. This 19-year-old runner is invested in developing her two strengths: 10,000 m and marathon.
