"Like previous matches, we have prepared thoroughly and perfectly to aim for victory," coach Alexandre Polking said at a press conference before the match between Hanoi Police Club and Borneo (Indonesia) at the Southeast Asian Club Championship.
Before this match, Hanoi Police Club was certain to top the group and qualify for the semi-finals. If they defeat Borneo at Hang Day Stadium tomorrow night (February 6), Nguyen Quang Hai and his teammates will become the first Vietnamese club to have a perfect record in the group stage of an international tournament.
In the previous two Southeast Asian Club Championships (2003 and 2005), no team had won 5 consecutive matches (excluding penalty shootouts). Currently, Hanoi Police Club is on a 4-match winning streak.
Borneo - the opponent of Hanoi Police Club tomorrow - is a mid-level team from Indonesia. This club is ranked 8th in Liga 1 - the highest level of professional football in the archipelago country.
Borneo's squad has two naturalized players of Dutch origin, Stefano Lilipaly and Diego Michiels. In addition, the Indonesian team can field up to eight foreign players.
“Indonesian football is developing very quickly and has a chance to participate in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. The Borneo team is a strong opponent and still has a chance to go through, so it will be a difficult but exciting match.
Their squad has many quality foreign players, while the domestic players are also highly skilled. However, one of their players will be absent due to a penalty card. I hope both teams will give the audience a beautiful match ," coach Polking commented on the opponent of the Hanoi Police Club.
