TPO - Tomorrow morning (October 30), Tien Phong Newspaper in coordination with the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Tri District will organize a "Conference on waste classification at source" with the participation of nearly 200 teachers and students from all levels of schools. The conference will be livestreamed on Tien Phong Newspaper's fanpage.

At the conference, experts and speakers from the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Center for Living and Learning for the Environment and Community (Live and Learn Vietnam) will share with teachers and students useful information related to the current status of household waste management, experiences and solutions to reduce waste from international to Vietnam, on-site waste classification as well as the roadmap for waste classification at source in Hanoi city.

Through games such as: ring the golden bell, find the green messenger game..., experts will guide students and teachers to practice classifying waste at the source in an attractive and interesting way.

Teachers and students can also ask questions for experts and speakers to answer on waste classification issues.

The organizers hope that after the program, teachers and students will be equipped with the skills to classify waste at source, thereby sharing and spreading this useful action in schools, families and communities, contributing to the roadmap for implementing waste classification at source in Hanoi, contributing to protecting the environment and landscape of the capital.

Also at the program, Tien Phong Newspaper will present the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Tri district with 16 sets (48 trash cans) to distribute to 4 primary and secondary schools in the area. From there, it will help practice and implement garbage classification right in schools.

According to the Law on Environmental Protection, from January 1, 2025, localities nationwide must classify waste at source. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has issued technical guidelines for classifying waste at source.

Accordingly, household waste is divided into 3 groups including organic waste, recyclable and reusable waste and remaining household solid waste. In the remaining household solid waste group, the authorities note to classify hazardous solid waste and bulky waste separately.

The representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment shared that the classification of domestic solid waste aims to promote the reuse and recycling of waste and discarded products, maximize the value, extend the life cycle of products and materials, thereby minimizing the amount of waste to be treated, contributing to promoting a circular economy and reducing environmental pollution.

Statistics show that if waste classification at source is done well, it will help reduce 60-75% of food waste, reduce 15-20% of recyclable waste and only about 25-30% of waste will have to be buried or treated at factories, bringing great efficiency to the environment and human health.
