Expert: "Coach Troussier prioritizes young players because many stars are declining"

Regarding the composition of many young players in the Vietnamese team preparing to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup, football expert Doan Minh Xuong said: "I think rejuvenating the team is necessary."

"The Vietnamese team must boldly rejuvenate because many players under coach Park Hang Seo can no longer maintain good form and lack the desire to contribute," football expert Doan Minh Xuong commented.

According to Mr. Xuong, Coach Philippe Troussier's work to renew the team's strength is not a hasty, one-day or two-day task, but this is the work that the French coach has carried out with a consistent roadmap over a certain period of time.

Football expert Doan Minh Xuong commented: "Coach Troussier has been preparing for the rejuvenation of the national team for the past year, starting with the squad participating in the SEA Games, the 19th Asiad and now the Asian Cup. After the Asian Cup, this squad will return to the World Cup qualifying campaign."

"This generation of players is also the one being prepared for the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, so it is understandable that the Vietnamese team has a young force participating in the 2023 Asian Cup," said expert Doan Minh Xuong.

Sharing the same opinion with Mr. Doan Minh Xuong, former Vice President in charge of professional affairs of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Duong Vu Lam spoke up: "In fact, although the Vietnamese team lacks many veteran faces, these absences are not too regrettable."

"I feel that the generation of players who were successful in Vietnamese football under coach Park Hang Seo has gradually lost their desire to conquer titles, so rejuvenation is inevitable," Mr. Duong Vu Lam affirmed.

Also in the past few days, the team has had injuries that have worried fans. However, in the eyes of a coach with many years of experience in the profession, expert Doan Minh Xuong said: "Injuries in top-level football are inevitable."

"This is a risk that every team participating in the 2023 Asian Cup must bear and go through. What I worry about now is the form of the players currently in the team, not the injuries of those who have left the team.

Recently, the stars' performance has been unstable, they rarely play well in many consecutive matches. The reason may come from the fact that the two V-League seasons are too close together. Typically, Hoang Duc and Hung Dung seem to be overloaded," expert Doan Minh Xuong assessed.

According to Mr. Xuong and former VFF Vice President of Professional Affairs Duong Vu Lam, the results are the most important, not the old or new team. Coach Troussier himself is doing his best to find good results for the Vietnamese team.

Expert Doan Minh Xuong commented: "At the Asian Cup, I think the goal of the Vietnamese team is to go as far as possible. Another goal is to rejuvenate the team, aiming for the matches against Indonesia in the World Cup qualifiers next March."
