Speaking at the event , Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Transport Do Viet Hai said that the city needs to speed up the implementation of smart systems to minimize traffic congestion, as well as reduce environmental pollution caused by dust and smoke from vehicles.

According to Mr. Hai, Hanoi is a city with a large area and population density, with more than 8.5 million people and about 8 million vehicles. Meanwhile, the land ratio for transportation is only about 12.13% and the rate of public passenger transport is low, leading to traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

Currently, the Hanoi Department of Transport has submitted to the City People's Committee for approval the Smart Traffic Project, including main contents such as: effective management and exploitation of traffic infrastructure; application of technology to improve management capacity; ensuring traffic safety and traffic culture. The project outlines an implementation roadmap consisting of three phases:

Phase 1 (2025-2027): Establish and operate the Smart Traffic Management and Operation Center with 9 main functions; Phase 2 (2028-2030): Expand the scope of operations, add 3 new functions; Phase 3 (after 2030): Improve the operational efficiency of the smart traffic system, aiming to become an advanced regional traffic management, operation and monitoring system.

"We will apply solutions such as using information technology services to quickly deploy smart traffic systems," said Mr. Hai.

Ms. Dang Thuy Trang, Director of External Relations of Grab Vietnam, affirmed: Grab is committed to developing sustainable transportation transformation solutions, towards smart and environmentally friendly transportation. Services such as Grab Rap and Grab Mat help reduce CO2 emissions and ensure transportation efficiency. In addition, Grab develops order consolidation features to reduce the number of operating vehicles and emissions.

"The company supports drivers to switch to electric vehicles with 0% interest rate, and cooperates in planting forests in Ninh Thuan to neutralize carbon. These strategies affirm Grab's role in building a sustainable transportation system in Vietnam," said Ms. Trang.

At the end of the workshop, the speakers affirmed that the development of smart transportation in Vietnam requires close coordination between the government, businesses and people. In particular, the government needs to promote the development of public transport infrastructure, perfect legal frameworks as well as create conditions for businesses to implement smart transportation and sustainable transportation projects, and encourage people to use green transportation and public transportation.
