Singaporean President's final foreign trip 'reaps' many cooperation agreements

From June 19-22, within the framework of Singaporean President Halimah Yacob's state visit to Qatar, the two sides reached an agreement to promote cooperation in many areas such as cyber security, low-carbon technology, food security and innovation.

According to a statement from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the two countries signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including a government-level MoU on energy security cooperation, a training program for Asian and Middle Eastern Dialogue countries at a training center in Qatar, and several ministerial and sectoral MoUs on innovation, cybersecurity cooperation, liquefied natural gas, and low-carbon technology.

Singapore and Qatar officially established diplomatic relations in November 1984. To date, Qatar has become Singapore's third largest trading partner in the Middle East.

In particular, trade turnover between the two countries last year reached 8.2 billion USD. In addition, Singapore currently has more than 30 companies operating in Qatar.

This is Ms. Halimah Yacob's last foreign visit as President of Singapore, before her term ends on September 13. She has announced that she will not run for re-election for a second term.
