Yen Vien - Lao Cai railway was severely damaged by floods, dozens of landslides, and the road cannot be opened yet.

Vietnam Railways Corporation said that most of the railway lines affected by storms and floods have been repaired, but the Yen Vien - Lao Cai route cannot be reopened due to dozens of landslides and damage to infrastructure and signal information.
Specifically, there are 15 locations where trees and information posts have fallen onto the railway. Many locations have deep, fast-flowing water causing erosion of the rock foundation, roadbed, landslides of the roadbed slope, soil and rocks filling the roadbed and railway ditches with about 20 flooded spots and over 45 landslides.

At the same time, about 15 points of trees and structures fell on the railway signal lines; 12 manned level crossings were flooded, and monitoring equipment was damaged. Signal equipment at Yen Bai station was flooded and damaged. Although units on the route promptly fixed the problem with the spirit of fixing it wherever the problem occurred, due to prolonged rain and floods, many infrastructure points were flooded and severely damaged, so they could not be completely repaired. Up to now, units are still focusing on human resources, materials, and equipment to urgently repair and overcome the consequences, ensuring the fastest route opening. Vietnam Railways Corporation also said that in addition to the Yen Vien - Lao Cai route, many other routes had severely damaged infrastructure points, such as the Hanoi - Dong Dang route with 8 landslides, rocks and soil covering the railway; Na Lam bridge Km 119+325 had landslides at the southern end downstream. On the Gia Lam - Hai Phong route, about 551 trees and structures fell onto the railway signal lines; 9 automatic warning level crossings had broken barriers, damaged some equipment such as sensors, monitoring equipment, and about 140 batteries were discharged. Signal equipment at Thuong Ly and Hai Phong stations was flooded, damaging some outdoor equipment such as cable boxes, transformer boxes, transformers, etc.

Many locations were completely covered by mud on the Yen Vien - Lao Cai railway line. Many locations were eroded by water, with rocks, roadbeds, fallen trees... Railway units are focusing on repairing the situation to clear the road.

On the Kep - Ha Long - Cai Lan route, about 166 trees fell on the railway; 4 sections of the route were flooded; 3 landslides, rocks and soil covered the railway; Trai Thanh bridge... Trees and structures fell and damaged the signal lines and accompanying accessories. In particular, in the Uong Bi - Ban Co - Yen Cu and Ha Long - Cai Lan sections, many information poles were completely broken. "The damage to infrastructure cannot be counted yet because there are too many points. However, in terms of transportation, from September 7 to 12, 41 passenger trains on the routes had to be canceled, causing a loss of more than 4 billion VND in revenue due to more than 18,000 passengers returning their tickets," said the Vietnam Railway Corporation.
