At a regular press conference on the afternoon of December 5, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang informed reporters about Vietnam's response to recent political developments in South Korea.

According to Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, as a country with a comprehensive strategic partnership with South Korea, Vietnam always pays attention to and follows the current developments and situation in South Korea.

"We believe that Korea will soon stabilize the situation and continue to develop strongly in the coming time," Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized.

Regarding the situation of the Vietnamese community in Korea, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that according to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea, recent developments have not had any impact on the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Korea.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea to urgently monitor related developments, and immediately contact local agencies, associations and groups of the Vietnamese community in Korea to grasp the situation of citizens living, working and studying in Korea," Ms. Pham Thu Hang stated.

At the same time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea needs to immediately coordinate closely with relevant agencies and Vietnamese communities, and advise citizens to comply with regulations and instructions of local authorities, avoid large gatherings, and keep in touch with the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang also reaffirmed: "In the spirit of serving the people, citizen protection is one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We continue to closely monitor the situation with the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea and are ready to take necessary measures to protect citizens."

Earlier, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol unexpectedly declared "emergency" martial law on the night of April 11, accusing opposition parties of "sabotaging the country" by pushing for impeachment of government officials and budget cuts for next year.

The move was shocking, as it was the first time a South Korean leader had unilaterally declared martial law since the country's transition to democracy in 1987.

However, martial law was quickly lifted after about 6 hours, after the South Korean National Assembly voted against it with an overwhelming majority. Even some lawmakers from the ruling People's Power Party (PPP) joined the opposition to protest against Mr. Yoon.

President Yoon Suk Yeol is under increasing pressure from the opposition, with the possibility of impeachment or charges of treason, after his attempt to briefly impose martial law was voted down by the National Assembly, Yonhap news agency reported.
