Kinhtedothi - On February 7, Thanh Oai district solemnly held a ceremony to receive the Prime Minister's Decision on ranking Boi Khe Pagoda as a special national monument.
Attending the ceremony were comrades: former Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi; former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang; former Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc; Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Pham Dinh Phong; Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha.
Also attending were representatives of leaders of departments, branches of the city; neighboring districts; leaders of Thanh Oai district and many people and tourists from all over.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Thanh Oai District People's Committee Vu Quynh said: Boi Khe Pagoda, whose Chinese name is "Dai Bi Tu", is one of the famous pagodas in the region with a spacious, airy space and landscape. It is an ancient pagoda built during the Tran Dynasty on the banks of Do Dong River.
The pagoda is located in the “Phuong Chuy” position, meaning that the pagoda is nestled on the head of a phoenix as if it is spreading its wings: in front are fields and open land with ancient trees and the Do Dong river. From Ngu Mon Quan to Tam Quan is a small bridge that crosses like a phoenix’s beak. On both sides of Tam Bao are two ancient stone wells that look like eyes; the triangular land stretching to Hung Giao village (Tam Hung commune) looks like a curved tail.
Boi Khe Pagoda has the structure of "Buddha in front, saint in back", "inner public, outer private", facing West, including the following items: Duc Ong temple, tower garden, five gates, brick bridge, three gates, stele house - altar, Buddhist temple (front hall, incense burner, upper hall, left - right corridor); Saint temple (great worship hall, tube, back palace), Ancestor house - Mother house and guest house.
The pagoda still retains many traces from the day it was built. The pagoda still preserves the lotus stone pedestal of the Tran Dynasty, the Garuda bird carved in wood at the top of the upper hall, stone lampstands, statues and bricks from the Mac Dynasty, and statues from the Le Dynasty with high artistic value. In particular, the structure of the Holy Temple is in the style of a 2-storey overlapping roof, with 8 curved roofs supported by a system of trusses, which is also a masterpiece of plastic art. Boi Khe Pagoda was recognized as a national architectural and artistic relic in 1979.
After the sanctuary, Boi Khe Pagoda also has a tunnel which was dug by the village guerrillas to carry out revolutionary activities against the French colonialists. The tunnel has now been partially restored and is open for visitors to visit and experience. Boi Khe Pagoda has many ancient trees, including the Boi Khe tree and the large banyan tree outside the gate which have been recognized as heritage trees. Besides, there is also a lotus tree associated with the image of Boi Khe Pagoda.
At the pagoda, every year, the festival takes place in early spring, from the 10th to the 12th of January (lunar calendar). In addition, at the pagoda, there is also a rain-praying festival and a matchmaking custom between the two villages of Boi Khe and Tien Lu (Tien Phuong commune, Chuong My district).
Boi Khe Pagoda was ranked as a special national monument by the Prime Minister on January 17, 2025. This is the first special national architectural and artistic monument of Thanh Oai district.
On behalf of the leaders of Thanh Oai district, Chairman of Thanh Oai District People's Committee Bui Van Sang expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders of the Central Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Hanoi, departments, experts and researchers who have accompanied, helped and guided the district to complete the dossier to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and recognition of Boi Khe Pagoda as a special national relic and achieved the results as today.
“The ceremony to receive the Certificate of recognition of Boi Khe Pagoda as a special national relic shows the deep gratitude of today's generation for the cultural heritage left by our ancestors; honoring the architectural and artistic values of Boi Khe Pagoda. This is also an occasion to commemorate and honor Saint Boi, and review the traditional cultural values of our homeland. Through the organization of a series of festival activities to preserve and promote the unique historical, cultural and artistic values of the special national relic; promote the image, potential and strengths of tourism of Thanh Oai homeland, thereby contributing to the increasingly prosperous and sustainable socio-economic development of the district" - Chairman of Thanh Oai District People's Committee Bui Van Sang affirmed.
In the coming time, Thanh Oai district and Tam Hung commune will continue to take care of the restoration, embellishment and preservation of relics; deploy solutions to exploit the value of relics in tourism development, contributing to socio-economic development and improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
After the opening ceremony, Thanh Oai District Party Secretary Bui Hoang Phan beat the drum to officially open the Boi Khe Pagoda Festival in the Spring of At Ty 2025.
Next is the unique and impressive art performance, opening a series of rich cultural and sports activities... taking place in 3 days (February 7-9). These are: the exhibition "Boi Khe Pagoda - Priceless Heritage Values"; displaying and introducing a number of typical royal decrees and archival steles about the two-nation Trang Nguyen Nguyen Truc, Quan Cong Le Tien Quy, Hoang Giap Le Huy Tram; exhibition of ornamental plants; opening of the 2025 Thanh Oai district Lion and Dragon performance; Youth football tournament to welcome the Boi Khe Pagoda festival; group performances with many folk games; Quan Ho singing; Art festival to welcome the festival with the theme "Boi Khe - Tien Lu 700 years of love"...
