At the meeting on the socio -economic situation on the morning of September 4, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, gave instructions to the education sector before the new school year. The city's leaders requested the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to review and organize concise but meaningful opening activities, resolving the backlog of the sector that has lasted for many years.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee acknowledged that every time a new school year begins, a local problem is raised: the lack of teachers. Mr. Phan Van Mai also proposed a solution to support retired teachers who are still healthy to teach fine arts, music , and foreign languages.

"I think we have abundant human resources but lack teachers because the policy is too low. The Director of the Department of Education and Training needs to review, propose policies, contract mechanisms and other support options. Even if the Ministry of Education and Training gives us 100 training places each year but in reality we need 500, we still need to make a project and report," the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City requested.
The head of the city government also requested the education sector to rectify the collection and use of fees from the department level to the schools. This is something that needs to be thoroughly implemented at the present time.
"Even the Department of Education and Training needs to rectify the organization of training courses; schools sending people must pay," Mr. Phan Van Mai stated.
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that the City People's Council has approved the collection contents and collection levels for the school year. Schools need to do it correctly and transparently.

In case of wanting to mobilize additional funds, schools should only do so with the consent of parents. If the majority of parents do not agree, the school should not continue to implement.
"I encourage press agencies to report cases of overcharging and improper practices. The Director of the Department of Education and Training needs to closely direct and not let the education sector be reported on for this, as this goes against the sector's principles and philosophy," the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that for many years, the department has had difficulty recruiting university graduates to become teachers of music and fine arts. Currently, the agency is researching and developing policies to attract this source of human resources.
In preparation for the new school year, the Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the Department of Health to send a dispatch requesting schools to review and obtain a list of students who have received 1 or 2 doses of measles vaccine. The school will keep track of the vaccination history of students, especially preschool children, so that they can be vaccinated right from the beginning of the new school year.
