On the afternoon of February 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a meeting with doctors and medical staff to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2024).
Attending the meeting were Mr. Phan Van Mai - Chairman of the City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai - Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - Chairwoman of the City People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee.
Developing a medical industry that is broad, comprehensive and specialized
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, on behalf of the city's leaders and people, expressed deep gratitude to generations of doctors and medical staff who have made important contributions to protecting people's health and developing the city's health sector.
Mr. Mai said that the city's leaders always consider the medical staff as a valuable human resource, not only contributing expertise but also giving opinions on many of the city's policies in various fields. Mr. Mai hopes that the medical staff will maintain their health and continue to make more profound contributions to the health sector.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested that all levels regularly have policies to care for the material and spiritual lives of medical staff, not just on the occasion of February 27.
Sharing more, Mr. Mai said that the city's leaders are very proud of the achievements that the city's health sector has achieved in recent times. Notably, the interventional cardiology team of Children's Hospital 1 - Tu Du Hospital recently successfully "catheterized the heart in the womb" for a fetus with severe congenital heart disease. This is a new step forward in advanced techniques on par with developed countries in the region.
Mr. Mai hopes that the medical team will continue to work creatively to achieve more medical achievements, provide better care, and aim for a higher standard of living for people, not only materially but also spiritually.
Orienting the key activities of the city's health sector in 2024, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the city's health sector to focus on implementing projects and policies issued after the COVID-19 pandemic such as developing a network of medical collaborators, developing preventive medicine, improving grassroots health capacity, etc.
Continue to research new directions and plans to turn the city into a health care center for the country and the region.

According to Mr. Mai, the city plans to pilot a health care program for adults.
"The city has programs for newborn health care, adolescent health care, psychological preparation, and legal knowledge for marriage. Newborn health care, puberty, adolescence, and pre-marital care. These are huge requirements for urban areas and developed countries. If done well, people's quality of life will be higher, life expectancy will be longer, and medical costs will be lower," said Mr. Mai.
After the pandemic, the city has a mental health care program for the people. At the same time, the city is studying an action strategy to respond to population aging. The city will also soon approve a project for a specialized medical center. In which, it is necessary to increase the application of information technology and train a team to meet the requirements. Focus on developing the pharmaceutical industry, moving towards forming a pharmaceutical and medical supplies trading floor to create a proactive position.
At the meeting, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong proposed many contents to the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 such as: approving the project to build a new Mental Hospital in Thu Duc City and the project to build a new Orthopedic Trauma Hospital.
Approve the project "Developing the Ho Chi Minh City health system to become the ASEAN regional health care center from now until 2030 and the following years" and include the project "Establishing a high-tech health examination and disease screening center in Ho Chi Minh City" of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital in the list of urgent mid-term projects 2021 - 2025.
At the same time, it is recommended to pilot the addition of human resources to health stations according to population size. It is recommended that the city sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Cuban Ministry of Health, piloting the Cuban family doctor model at 5 health stations in Binh Chanh district;
